Abramelin Posted June 8 #1 Share Posted June 8 (edited) The citizens and tribes of Chad and the Central African Republic have long reported sightings of a large cat with gigantic fangs. It is described as being a large tiger that lacks a tail. The fur is often sandy red or brown with white stripes and it has overly hairy legs and feet. What is the truth behind this mystery big cat? +DieChecker Posted July 3 #2 Share Posted July 3 (edited) I was going to reply to this long ago, but forgot. While its true relic populations can exist. Its super unlikely. If there were sabertooth cats still in north Africa thered be large mammal bodies (bones) showing damage consistent with their attack style. Unless they eat the bones.... Reports of such are probably created by hunters, or men otherwise out in the wild, who got scared and ran home. Then reported a giant cat stalking them, in order to spare their pride. True, but most often you only see that kind of damage when you expect it and are trying to find corpses with that kind of damage. Scavangers can make evidence disappear, btw.

How many times in history have saber toothed cats evolved independently? At least twice, possibly three. Perhaps we are not looking at a relic but a new expression of the model.
