Four US academics stabbed in park during China visit

Four US college instructors teaching in China have been stabbed while visiting a public park, US officials have said.

The tutors from Cornell College in Iowa were at the park in Jilin province, north-eastern China with a faculty member from Beihua University on Monday when the attack occurred, college president Jonathan Brand said in a statement. The private college in Iowa partners with the university near Jilin City.

Details on the extent of the group’s injuries and whether the daytime attack was targeted or random were unclear.

I had a friend who was planning a holiday in China.  I told them it was a bad idea well before this happened.  They cancelled their plans over this episode today afaik.

They have to understand, when you travel abroad and visit other countries, you're no safer there than you are here.

I hope you advise them not to come to Chicago as well, because statistically, it's far more dangerous than China

617 homicides and 2,450 shootings in Chicago in 2023.

Our former Governor Branstad is great friends with Xi Xinping from before he was the paramount leader of China and created multiple relationships and exchanges like this one. He even made us a sister state with China's Heibei province.  China buys a great portion of our soy and pork products.

So that being said, I can see why they were there. Shame they were attacked by a nutter in a park.

That's in "normal" times.  The DNC convention in August is apt to bring the criminals as well as the crazies in, in large numbers.
