SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea said Thursday it will begin deploying laser weapons systems designed to intercept North Korean drones, which have caused security concerns in the South in recent years.

South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration said that it will deploy at least one anti-air laser weapons system called “Block-I” by the end of this year and more in coming years.

India has developed a new anti-drone system as well with laser-based interception. It will be interesting to see the Korean system and its features. India and South Korea has a good defense relationship between them at the moment.

With capabilities for both ‘soft and hard kills’, including jamming and a laser-based interception, these systems offer a crucial defense mechanism for the Indian Army’s tactical operations, providing detection within a range of five to eight km.

India has developed ‘soft kill’ counter-drone systems through its private and state-owned industry and soft as well as ‘hard kill’ capabilities through the DRDO. While the soft kill measures against drone attacks use jammers to disrupt drones’ communication, disrupt GPS signals or spoof them, hard kill means targeting the drone with bullets or guns or, as in the IDD&IS, through laser beams.

I was not aware of India's system, however South Korea's system was developed in the partnership between the United States and South Korea.

Thank you very much for the link I will check it out!
