Nearly 200 people have been infected with dengue in the states of New York and New Jersey so far this year, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. New York has reported 143 cases and New Jersey has reported 41..

Dengue viruses spread through mosquito bites. The most common symptom is a fever with aches and pains, nausea, vomiting and rash. Symptoms usually begin within two weeks after being bitten by an infected mosquito and last 2-7 days. Most people recover after about a week.

With expectations for a more active hurricane season, we may see even more of this during the summer.

Sadly (per Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengue_fever) more than one species of mosquito can carry the virus.  It's a more manageable situation when there's just one species involved.

On the bright side, it's not usually fatal, but like West Nile Virus, the ones most at risk will be the elderly and babies.  That's the two populations that are also vulnerable to high temperatures.

(sigh) Not shaping up to be a good summer, health wise.
