Fourteen high school students in Tokyo were admitted to hospital after eating "super spicy" potato crisps, police said.

Around 30 students ate the fiery snacks after one of them brought them to school on Tuesday, Japanese local media reported.

Soon, some of them started complaining of nausea and acute pain around their mouth, prompting emergency calls to the fire department and police.

The 13 girls and one boy who were taken to hospital were conscious and reportedly had minor symptoms.

I've never understood the desire to eat things that are so spicy, they block the taste of anything the spices are applied to.  It's never made any sense to me.  I guess my taste buds aren't refined enough :unsure2:

It isn't for the flavor, the chili heads get a high off eating extremely hot food because their bodies release endorphins and dopamine. There was a pretty good show on Hulu called Superhot that is worth watching if you want to see why some people enjoy this stuff.

They better stay away from Carolina Reaper stuff then.

Capsaicin can be quite the bane for the unwary.

It is ok. Spicy, yeah, but it doesn't taste nearly as good as Trinidad Scorpion Butch Ts. I think Butch Ts taste better than the lot of them, ghost peppers and Carolina reapers included. More of a back-of-the-throat heat and more flavourful.

I remember the first time I tried a ghost pepper, I thought it was way less spicy than what I was expecting. Pepper X does pack a punch, though. Flavour-wise, I don't like it as much.

I am a hot sauce junky but I have found the best tasting hot sauces aren't the hottest. Valentina black label, all the Marie Sharp's but specifically Belizean Heat, all the El Yucatecos...they aren't the hottest but they taste fantastic. I avoid the ones with oleoresin (extracts) because it takes away from the taste.

Straight battery acid that stuff is. It's all burn and no flavor at all. At least Reapers have that fruity/peppery flavor to them still.

El Yucateca as you said, not the hottest but great taste with enough heat.

First time in about 6-7 years I didn't grow any ghosts or Reapers, just 2 habaneros and 2 scotch bonnets.

Think it was Denmark that recently banned some spicy ramen noodles for health concerns...

I've tried those very noodles the buldak X-3,they are spicy but nothing close to the hottest foods out there.

Those crisps would have given me massive heartburn, I can't eat anything too spicy.
