Rare video of uncontacted tribe shows members emerging from Amazon rainforest

Recommended Posts

Rare footage of an uncontacted tribe shows its members face "humanitarian disaster" as loggers encroach on their territory, a British human rights group has warned.

According to local campaigners, the Mashco Piro indigenous tribe have been sighted coming out of the rainforest in their remote part of the Peruvian Amazon in recent weeks in search of food.

Survival International said the images highlighted the need to "throw out" loggers set to begin work in the tribe's territory, a few miles from where these pictures were taken by the Las Piedras river.

Wow!  Another unreached people group in the Amazon!  It just makes one wonder how many other tribes are unreached and continue to live in the way of their ancestors.  BTW….is it me, or do they look like they are wearing black bathing suit bottoms?

‘Uncontacted’ Indigenous group attacks loggers in the Peruvian Amazon

Members of an “uncontacted” Indigenous group used bows and arrows to attack loggers in the Peruvian Amazon in a confrontation that left at least one person injured, according to a local Indigenous organisation.

The incident came just weeks after more than 50 men and boys from the isolated group known as the Mashco Piro made a rare appearance on a beach in the Peruvian Amazon.

Campaigners warn that the Mashco Piro are under siege from logging activity – both illegal and legal – and the latest clashes are likely to increase calls for the government to finally demarcate their ancestral territory after years of conflict.

Two loggers shot dead with arrows in clash with Indigenous group in Peruvian Amazon

At least two loggers have been shot dead with arrows, one has been injured and two more are missing after a confrontation with members of the “uncontacted” Mashco Piro people in the Peruvian Amazon, according to Indigenous activists who have criticised the government for failing to formally recognise and protect all of the isolated people’s territory.

The deadly attack, which occurred last Thursday but was made known only this week, took place a day before the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) suspended for eight months the sustainability certification of a logging company that campaigners have accused of encroaching on the fiercely territorial Indigenous group’s ancestral land.

It follows a similar attack in August in the same area..
