Huw Edwards was among the BBC’s highest-paid journalists with a salary increase of £40,000 – despite being suspended for most of last year.

The former News at Ten presenter resigned on “medical advice” after he was accused of paying a young person thousands of pounds for sexually explicit images.

In the corporation’s annual report, which was released today, it was revealed that Mr Edwards earned between £475,000-£479,999, up from £435,000-£439,999 in the previous report.

The 62-year-old, who was taken off air when the scandal broke in July last year, was alleged by a newspaper to have paid the young person £35,000.

South Wales Police and the Metropolitan Police found no evidence of criminal conduct.

Looks like he's finally being charged:

Former BBC presenter Huw Edwards has been charged with making indecent images of children, the Metropolitan Police said.

The veteran broadcaster, 62, who left the corporation in April, faces three charges over alleged activity between December 2020 and April 2022.

He is due in court on Wednesday.

According to the charge sheet, Edwards is accused of having six category A images, 12 category B pictures and 19 category C photographs on WhatsApp.

Huw Edwards has been asked by the BBC to hand back more than £200,000 salary he earned after being arrested in November on child abuse image charges.

The ex-presenter "behaved in bad faith" in continuing to take his salary despite knowing what he had done, said BBC Chair Samir Shah in a letter to staff.

Mr Shah said Edwards had been “living a double life” as someone who on the face of it was a much-admired broadcaster but who had “betrayed the trust of staff and our audiences”.

Ahh yes, another shining example of a “blind” legal system.
Anyone else expect to see him back in TV within the decade?

Indeed. BBC pedos get a free pass (still get a pay rise) but god help you if you tweet against the narrative. What two tier justice?

Tweet against the narrative and get jailed. Expose the and flaws in the system or be a whistleblower and see what happens to you.
