Three warships from Russia's Baltic Fleet dock in Cuba, purpose of visit unknown

Cuban defence officials announced the latest port call earlier this week, calling the arrival of the Russian warships a "historical practice" and show of "friendship and collaboration."

But neither Havana nor Moscow elaborated on the purpose of this latest deployment.

The docking of the flotilla has sparked a flurry of excitement among the general public, with Cubans strolling the port avenue to get a better glimpse of the warships on Saturday and authorities saying interested visitors would be admitted on board the Russian training ship, called Smolny, on Sunday and Monday.

"It's a friendly thing. A bond between Russia and the Cubans," said 29-year-old onlooker Maydelis Perez. "I'm taking a family outing."?

The "purpose" is so that they avoid annihilation by Ukraine.  This isn't difficult to figure out.

I seriously doubt they would travel that far to avoid annihilation by the Ukrainian military. This is the second time in a matter of months that Russian Naval forces have shown up in Cuba 🇨🇺. I suspect in the near future we will discover in the near future what’s actually going on.

Almost certainly just more Russian sabre rattling to try and pretend they could pose a threat to NATO.

They`ll either be moving anti-ICBM missiles or placing ICBMs there.

To annoy the US for moving to its own doorstep.

Duke, I hope you're mistaken because the last thing we need is another Cuban Missile Crisis. However, I don't think that's the situation; it seems more like smoke and mirrors. But if I'm mistaken, Cuba is engaging in a risky game that they cannot win.

Remember when Putin started piling up forces along the border to Ukraine? It’s a training exercise. It’s all friendly. Then look what happened. We should be very cautious of any manoeuvring of pieces.

You’re certainly right, no matter how benign it may appear there is no reason why we should not treat this seriously and act accordingly!

Good post!:tu:
