Russia and China could begin 'slide into World War 3' in new 'axis of aggression

Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping could be pushing humanity closer to World War 3, an expert has warned, after bomber planes were intercepted off the coast of the US.

Two Chinese and two Russian long-range bombers were tracked flying over international waters near Alaska on Wednesday, causing US and Canadian fighter jets to be hurriedly scrambled in response. Beijing and Moscow confirmed on Thursday that they had conducted a joint air patrol over the Bering Sea, which divides Russia and Alaska. The joint North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) insisted Chinese and Russian military activity on Wednesday was not seen as a threat.

But the unprecedented action follows months of growing military ties between the two nations that have left officials in the West concerned. Professor Anthony Glees, professor of politics at the University of Buckingham, told the Mirror that a frightening WW2-like "axis" may now be forming between Putin and Xi as they try to "undermine NATO" - and that people in the UK should be taking notice.

Sorry this is nothing more than scaremongering as this isn't something new, both sides do the same.

I must be missing something. The US and other countries buy a lot of goods from China. And yet there is tension with China on Taiwan and other issues.

It's like trading baseball cards with the town bully.

I don't think China wants to be part of a world War. Sure they stand to gain over the conflict between Russia and the Ukraine as Russia can supply cheap resources but a world war would put their economy in dire jeapordy if sanctions were applied as well as the loss of western trade.

I agree generally, but some years ago I would never have thought we would have a large conventional war in Europe. Now we have one, with hundreds of soldiers getting killed on the front lines every week, with arms supplied from countries all round the world. I also would never have thought people like Johnson, Trump and Farage would get support in the West either, yet here we are.

I agree the article is clickbait, but now nothing is unthinkable.

"Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping could be pushing humanity closer to World War 3"

Oh man, again??? 😂

Vladdy doesn't have the stones now that he's realized his military is slowly being emasculated in the fields and forests of the Ukraine. Xi knows that to assault the US or come into direct conflict with the US would mean the end of their economy as they know it.

Lots and lots of hot air. Designed to trigger a response during a Presidential election cycle.

China's trade with Russia only amounts to 5% of their total exports.  For China to survive, they need a reasonably peaceful world of customers.

I think after Trump's declaration that only he could get the hostages freed,  Putin took a dump on him and approved the deal with Biden.

There are many countries and entities in the world that has rivalry with the U.S, NATO and Russia, and would be seeking a nuclear war and holocaust between them that would end these nations, and could be scheming in this regard.

China has unrivalled superpower ambitions and would be a country that actually seeks a nuclear war between US-NATO and Russia. China has had territorial disputes with Russia as well  . It can claim sole superpower status and leadership  in a world minus Russia, US and Europe. It can also grab Taiwan without resistance in such a scenario.

The Islamists had also sought for the annihilation of US-NATO as well as Russia, and could be hatching plans and schemes in this regard to artificially aggravate hostilities between them , which would be amplified in the fog of war.

So all these scenarios should be brainstormed and accounted for so as to make informed choices and proper judgement, imo.

I was just thinking the same. I don't think there is any need for Islamists to escalate hostilities more than is being done by Russia itself though. Iranian missiles will be enough to persuade Biden to allow Ukraine to fire their missiles into Russian territory.

It would be prudent not to underestimate the Islamists.

Today is 11-9-24, the twenty-third anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks that took out the Pentagon, world trade center and almost the White house with just American planes. All this inspite of a 300 billion dollar defence budget of the US that year.

Same too with the 2005 London suicide bombings inspite of the heightened alerts following the Iraq war.

The Islamists give a lot of importance to deception and tactics and would use any opportunity that comes to realize their objectives.

I think China is the greatest threat:

And we’ve now seen this action of Russia acquiring ballistic missiles from Iran, which will further empower their aggression in Ukraine. So if anyone is taking escalatory action, it would appear to be Mr Putin and Russia”

Lammy said: “It is Putin who has escalated this week with the shipment of ballistic missiles from Iran and we’re seeing this new axis, Russia, Iran, North Korea. We urge China not to throw their lot in with this group of renegades.”

Putin has escalated Ukrainian war with Iranian missiles, suggest Blinken and Lammy – as it happened | Ukraine | The Guardian

China doesn`t need a nuclear war, it needs time.

As it continues to modernise the nation for more of its people the time will come when it naturally overtakes the USA. As that day emerges they will unhook their dependence on the west as they will have their own large consumer base. This will happen automatically as the more they develop the stronger their currency will become reducing exports.

With Taiwan the western interest is in the chip foundry on the island. By far the largest of the very few which exist in the world. If China gain it, then they are the leading electronic and computing nation.

I think the primary risk for nuclear war comes from Iran.  Russia is said to be assisting them with the tech needed to field nukes.  Israel CANNOT live with a nuclear Iran.  Every single launch from any direction of the compass could mean the end of their state.  If nuclear war breaks out in the ME, Barack Obama needs to have the wrath of God descend on him...
