House Speaker Johnson slams White House's silence on Olympics opening ceremony controversy:

I really think the similarity was unintentional and superficial. I don't think the White House or anyone has need to condemn it.

I am a spiritually aware atheist. In my opinion it was in bad taste. If I participated in the Olympics (as ice-cream salesman) I would have withdrawn and moved my business to the beach..

What is odd is how almost immediately after the performance essentially every main stream news source in America was saying how the performance was about the Last Supper.

As just a single example

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/paris-2024-summer-olympics/drag-queens-paris-opening-ceremony/5637682/?amp=1

Notice article was posted July 27 with the opening ceremony being July 26.

Now that there has been a big backlash against that act/scene now the media/Olympics is trying to spin it as being about a Greek bacchanalia.

No matter it's original intention it was originally put out as being about the Last Supper by media.

Do people not realize that this was a painted like 1500 years after the "last supper" occurred?  It's a depiction by an artist.  So many people treat this painting like Da Vinci was standing in front of them with a canvas.  Weird.  Straight up weird.  Thank you Kamala, for my new buzzword because it's so fitting.

In bad taste? How so?

Do you mean your ice cream?

Isn't that the way media works?  If one makes a statement, the others jump right in.  Its not  confirmation, its just sheep following the leader.   If they are all wrong, it doesn't matter.  No consequence.  But if one  strays and is wrong, big loser.in viewership.

Haha, it was definitely meant to enflame an emotional response from the Jesus loving folks.. Absolutely no doubt about it. Christianity and Jesus are easy targets. They're also the most frequent target by the so-called atheists or non believers. And so be it. It is what it is. Doesn't really matter much anyhow.

What I observed(without sound on) was a heavily obese and unhealthy looking woman(a prime Covid candidate) surrounded by transvestites with their junk hanging out with some old guy painted blue who looked high on psychedelics. And kids, a lot of kids.  Bizarre.

To be honest, even if i wasnt a Christian, the whole Last Supper thing was in very bad taste.

I won't be supporting these Olympics. Wont be watching, or monitoring who won what.

Its like the shows created for the Woke, that no one watches. I simply wont watch them. No one does. They always get awards, but also canceled mid season. Money talks, i guess.

The last supper didn't have 17 people or a blue Dionysus.....

Methinks the drama is just Christians making everything about themselves and being offended by it.

Thats probably true. But even if that is true. Id like to see the Olympic Committee come out and appologize and say it wasnt their intent.

Even than, its not something I'd have recommended my kids watching.

Are we now saying ancient Greek Orgies are what society should strive for?

Woke nonsense to appease the vocal far left

You do realize that the original Olympics were done in the nude: A Brief History Of Olympic Nudity From Ancient Greece To ESPN (forbes.com)

It's only because of "Woke" Christian culture that we have such a negative stigma of stuff like nudity or this display.

I have no problem with original Olympics having been done in the nude.

The original Olympians, though, undoubtedly would have crushed the skulls of the woke freaks with blunt objects.

I feel that I have no interest in woke apologists either. Sigh. +1

That's a shame.

The athletes don't have any say or input into the ceremony. They are the stars that make it an event. Two weeks of the best of the best training for years for this moment. Long before this ceremony was an idea. Two weeks of feats shunned for a couple of hours that doesn't represent them, but the hosting country. IMHO it would be more logical to refuse french products than blame international competitors.

I reckon the closing ceremony is under heavy scrutiny.

It's on in my place most time anyone is home. I'm just annoyed they didn't stop the count when we were winning. There four people around me right now watching track. Aussies in general are very sports orientated though. It's a strong part of the culture.

And it was only for men. Damn those "Christians" allowing woman into sports.

And there were a lot less sports involved. Damn those "Christians" for allowing all these stupid changes.

Sarcasm.

Unless youre suggesting we go back to that? Probably drive viewership through the roof...

Just as i would for any sporting event dipping into politics. Enough people complain, or fail to show (lost money), or to watch (lost money), and the next time they think about it more. And perhaps dont offend hundreds of millions of people.

I think rightly so.
