I loved the opening ceremony and am going to Paris in Feb.

I was once  in Paris on Bastille Day.  There was a lot of singing, boozing, throwing firecrackers and  dancing in the streets. Even the waiters were more tolerant. 🙂 A good time.

I hope you have a wonderful time.  So much to see there from 1000 year old buildings to the most modern art.

They thought Jesus was a gay guy.

Some scholars suggest that the letter implies that Jesus was involved in homosexual activity, although this interpretation is contested.

Thats’ a whole of of rubbish theology going on there, with a BEAUTIFUL load of irony from the fact that by trying to deny the value of Mary in the Jesus movement they end up making Jesus the one thing worse than a woman in their twisted ideology - gay!

Drag is a fine old European tradition and nobody there is shocked or offended by it.  In England (and possibly the entire UK) there's a tradition of doing silly Christmas plays where men dress up as women and vice-versa.  If you watch a lot of British tv (we love BritBox), it's a very common thing.

And yes, Europe is a lot more liberal about sexual matters.  So, it fits completely.

Is "Drag" also from ancient Greece? Just curious.

Yup.

Men played women's roles back then.  Women couldn't do much of anything in society.  Male drag performers showed up at parties, plays, festivals.

Didn't you take any Greek history?

Which is a fraud like I said before.

Now, admittedly, most of my contemporaries (Boomers) are probably not as aware of the fact that drag has been around since the ancient Greeks (and probably before), but I did some extensive reading on Greek society when I was in college because I loved the mythology.

I think that's more a commentary on American education than age. Most people your age hear would either know or be unsurprised at least.

Not even that far back.  Juliet was played by men in Shakespeare's plays.

My not watching is punishment? Id rather say its not supporting the organization producing the event.

I can't see how that applies.

The hosting country has a few hours to showcase its own artistic interpretation of the country.

Athletes train for years and come from all over the world and compete for two weeks.

If you dont go to a movie, because its too violent, are you punishing the actors?

Not comparable. The games themselves do not in any way represent the host country.

It could have been in celebration of ancient Greece, but its not hard to smell the politics behind much of the show. I believe I read the guy who produced it admits to having an agenda.

No, it was in France. Every country puts their own spin on the ceremony. It's part of being the host. We won't be illustrating Greece in eight years. It will be an Australian theme.

No politics involved whatsoever.

Very woke of you.

I fervently hope that we won’t even be hosting it in 8 years and either Miles or Chrisafuli pull a “Dan Andrews” on the whole sorry affair.

I'd say it's too late to back out. Construction is underway in many areas. I'll be surprised if it doesn't go ahead. Miles will want that feather in his cap.

If he keeps doing things like the fifty cents fares and meeting the public to ask their opinion, he's going to keep this job.
