RFK Jr admits dumping bear cub carcass in New York's Central Park

Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr has posted a video on social media in which he admits that he dumped a dead bear cub in New York City's Central Park in 2014.

The clip, posted to his X account on Sunday, shows him with controversial US comedian Roseanne Barr as he describes bizarre circumstances that led to an incident that mystified New Yorkers 10 years ago.

It appears he shared the anecdote to get ahead of a story in The New Yorker magazine published on Monday.

Mr Kennedy's confession comes as his presidential campaign appears to be struggling. His support has dwindled to single digits in polls since Kamala Harris entered the race for the Democrats.

Hah, this is something I would do.

I wouldn't tell the world about it if I was running for president- but I sure would pull a prank like this.

(I hope he at least put the road kill in a plastic bag or something before he put it in his car, though.)

Isn't that illegal? What with the ban on transporting bear parts? Also, where did he get the bear carcass?

Why?

Because he has mental health issues.

He should be in an institution.

According to the news I saw tonight it is not illegal because it is roadkill.  They cannot bring up charges.

Huh, in Canada it would net you a huge fine. Just checked, and most states require a permit to pick up road killed game animals.

And yet he keeps getting elected.
and it wasn’t “a problem” until he decided to run against the other mentally rotten candidate the Dems were pushing.

Nominated. I don't think he's been elected by anyone for anything. Obama refused to consider him as a lawyer due to his heroin past. He's been more an activist most of his last few spending a lot of time in court fighting uphill battles. He tried to become a DA but failed the bar. He's pretty much a definition of a loser.

I would assume he is only supported by the same people who think Frontline doctors are actually concerned with medicine.

He's always been a problem. During Covid people noticed that he was a sandwich short of a picnic. The anti vaxers loved him, which kinda says it all. Martha Moxley, The Kennedy assassinations. This guy would make fruit cakes jealous. He's loaded to the gills. Even his family says he's a loon and not to listen to him

It's why Republicans love him more than Dems, and why he went independent.

Mate next to him, Joe looks like a well informed young man.

I can say that's very true here in Florida, people who like game do try if they hit the creature themselves or get to the scene soon enough to havest the meat know to report it to game officials.

My dad was a great hobbyist taxidermist and even he had to have permits for some creatures I don't know which but he said some birds no matter how they died they were off limits.

Some guy messing with a dead bear just makes me think of Jeff dalmer or Jame gumb

This is what I heard on the news last night. They said that it was not illegal because the bear was roadkill, and that they were unable to press any charges.  This statement sounded really weird to me as well, and the whole thing sounded bizarre. So I looked it up.

Multiple sources say the same thing or similar.  In New York you can pick up road kill to eat depending on the species, but it must be registered and tagged by the Department of Environmental Conservation.  The fine is $250 if you don't, but the statute of limitation is one year.  Since this happened in 2014, RFK cannot be prosecuted according to the Times Union (Karlin, 2024).

Karlin, R. (2024, August, 6). One cannot just scoop up certain roadkill in N.Y. without alerting authorities. Times Union. https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/rjk-jr-dead-bear-handle-taking-roadkill-n-y-19620429.php
