He has made many proclamations during this conflict about wiping out the Ukrainian identity so I don't see a problem in taking the fight to his doorstep. The AFU is not targeting civilians as does Putin and his military command nor are they committing the crimes his men have raping, torturing, murdering and kidnapping so it's not like he is getting back what he condoned and dished out. All I can say is Go Ukraine 6

Tatetopa Posted August 8 #4 Share Posted August 8 What is the goal? Is Ukraine doing a clearance of Russian bases used to supply the Russian invasion force ? Or is there more to their strategy? Now Putin will have to marshal forces to defend his homeland, is that designed to get him to recall some troops from Ukraine?

HI Tate Hard to say considering Ukraine military command is keeping silent. It seems they have cut off both rail and road routes of supply to Kursk and have mined the road. It looks like they found a weak spot and took advantage of it to distract resources from the front line but will have to wait and see what unfolds in the next few days. If the Ukraine do take significant ground Putin may be begging the west for a cease fire just to keep from losing even more ground as he will be looking pretty weak and ineffective to the imaginary people that voted for him. 1

All I can say is Go Ukraine I agree with you, however there is more to the Ukrainian attack than meets the eye. They don’t have the equipment of military forces to mount a full scale invasion of Russia, so it appears to me that this is a diversion in an attempt to weaken the Russian forces within the Ukraine by forcing Putin to shift forces to the Kursk salient. In the near future I think we will possibly see another attack on Russian forces within the Ukraine, I could be wrong but I expect to see it soon. JIMHO HI Grim Yes it seems from the start as a way to force Russia to take men from the front and disrupt transport of supplies to Russians fighting in Kursk but went better than expected. I didn't think they planned on holding the territory much like the invasions by Russian Patriot fighters earlier. It does make Putin look bad to his own people which is good. 1

I totally agree, it not only made Putin look like an ass, it also surprised the entire Russian chain of command. It also has proven that the Ukrainian military planners are proficient at choosing targets, and that the Russian forces are spread very thin and weaker than they appear to be. 2

HI Grim Absolutely and a few days ago it was projected that Russia may be able to push forward for a month and a half before they can't anymore. Their intent was to grab as much territory before American elections in the hope that Trump wins and aids in a ceasefire so they could set that as new boundary lines and keep it, now in a couple of days they have lost more than they gained so doesn't look good for Putin. I am pretty sure there will be no ceasefire in the near future so Putin will have to call for inscription to keep going with dwindling resources. Best to drain his pool now then give him any time to rebuild. Edited August 8 by jmccr8

Yea that offense made him crap his pants, it obviously proves that Russian forces are spread very thin. While the Ukrainian military can’t sustain this offensive long term, they have certainly proven a valuable point. 4

It certainly is a diversion, and it’s designed to force Putin to redeploy his forces which means he will pull troops currently deployed else where in the Ukraine to stop this incursion.

I think your right Jay, Putin most likely start a draft to muster the additional forces he needs however that will not help him for sometime.

HI Grim They might get a few weeks of training, Putin doesn't care and just keep pushing men into the fight like he has been doing hoping to deplete Ukrainian supplies with constant waves of manpower.

bmk1245 Posted August 8 #25 Share Posted August 8 BTW, there is no proof Ukrainian forces invaded Kursk county, might have been tuaregs from Sahara... Gotta love Ukrainians (armed forces, intelligence and counter-itelligence), total silence, I mean TOTAL SILENCE, no one had/have a clue... 2
