Retired janitor recalls 1974 UFO sighting in West Lothian, Scotland

Hundreds of people reacted to my story with some reaching out and getting in touch. I did not realize that communities of like minded people existed."

That's the most important part of the article.

There are many purple who are like minded or who had similar experiences and were or still are hesitant to share with others due to the ridicule and stigma that existed and still exists. Not to mention the reputation and career consequences.

So many stories like this are one of the reasons I believe this UFO phenomenon is beyond our current understanding.

Why some people just think it is all crazy nonsense is also hard for me to fathom at this point.

Can't help but wonder how a janitor in 1974 would have direct access to air traffic control at a major airport, calling from a phone box?.

Papa George, when was the last time you calibrated the Papameter?

It appears that your current readings are outside the +10 / -10 tolerance!:D

It’s been pre calibrated to register paranormal as the likeliest explanation every single time.

Like using loaded dice to play crapps.

Not necessarily.  It's a useful indicator of its operator's confirmation biases and credulity.

I don't know about 1974, but it is easy now to speak to ATC, at least at our local international airport, we just ring them.

Im very OCD and while the last year maybe 18 months has really been a train wreck for me and my mind isnt what it was i sure would not boast that i have a perfect memory of 50 yo events its just not how our brains work no matter how upset that fact makes true believers.

Im not saying this cat is a liar but i am saying and sticking to all he has is a story and nothing more and since im not a drop bear a story doesnt equal fact or proof for me.

You are right imo when you say that the UFO phenomenon is beyond our understanding. Obviously much of the UFO related matters are not nonsense and have been taken very seriously by our government and armed forces as well as other governments and their armed forces around the world. The US government and our armed forces accept the phenomenon is real snd unexplained. It was ridiculed only a few decades ago to divert attention from such an important subject.

Only the very few that are still unidentified.  Most of them are identified as either man-made or natural phenomenon.

The reason for this is national security and flight safety.  Why you people immediately are jumping to ET is beyond me.

I wonder what this national security means in your opinion. So UFOs ARE matters of national security. Hence real and very seriously taken. Not apparitions, ghosts, meteors, swamp gas, ball lightning, Hassdalen lights.

are you serious!? spy drones/ planes from other counties that shouldn't be there/ large pieces of plastic sheeting blown from a building site & general waste that could course major air traffic problems etc etc of which many will initially be unidentifiable from the ground- the list can go on...

yeah, real and very seriously taken regarding national security & for the well being of citizens in general- it's just fantasy to think the authorities are immediately thinking aliens!

Indeed.  Especially when their "best evidence" comes from Ancient Aliens, tabloid news papers, clickbaits and other dimwit sources.

I meen if these guys were 12 it would be understandable... 😄

Real and very seriously taken for a number of reasons. I agree that foreign adversaries is one part of this phenomenon but that's not the whole story. There is another part that you are trying to conveniently dismiss.

Foreign adversaries, military black projects, the private sector...and the thing you are very hesitant to admit.

Robotic creatures from the hollow Earth?

Next Gen Russian hologram?

Time travelers?

Little green men?

How can we tell the difference?

i'm conveniently dismissing alien in origin i assume you mean?

what's 'convenient' .. i take it you feel skeptics deep down know aliens are here due to the data that you believe to be conclusive but are frightened to admit it to themselves, hence why we dismiss the data, yes?

Since the UFO phenomenon is taken seriously and was always taken seriously by our government and military, I expect you can admit the other possibility that many now consider including people in government and the armed forces.
