Green Devil Posted August 14 #1 Share Posted August 14 Asking the question if you are afraid of dying https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-savvy-psychologist/202009/why-we-fear-death-and-how-overcome-it
Popular Post +Desertrat56 Posted August 14 Popular Post #2 Share Posted August 14 That is an interesting article. I found out I was not afraid of death, but I am afraid of pain. The interesting thing I found in that article was that people who are afraid to die are less resilient about loved one's deaths. 10
Guyver Posted August 14 #3 Share Posted August 14 I’m a little afraid. I know this because I once got caught in the most brutal lighting storm while riding my motorcycle from Idaho to Oregon, and when I was seemingly trapped in the middle of the storm with lightning striking all around me, I screamed out loud, freaked the eff out and just stopped in the middle of the road. Two Harley riders (a husband and wife team) came along side of me and motioned me to follow them. So I did. We made it past the storm and took shelter under the cover of a hotel entrance. They said in the future, just keep your feet on the pegs and drive through the storm without stopping.
L.A.T.1961 Posted August 14 #4 Share Posted August 14 I might be when it comes to it. But at the moment it is not a regular concern. I might be strange but I have contemplated my own demise from a teenager, back then I hoped that science would advance fast enough to stop aging and serious illness by the time I needed help. Despite promises by the medical profession and charities to at least tackle serious illness there is still a long way to go. Being aware of my mortality has not changed decisions I've made on how to live my own life. Which is probably one of the biggest indicators of how someone thinks about death?
Bendy Demon Posted August 14 #5 Share Posted August 14 We all are afraid of death to some degree or another. It is that fear which, for most people, keeps us from doing really stupid things. Am I afraid of natural death like dying in my sleep or having a heart attack? Somewhat but I am more wary of dying in an accident or being the victim of a violent crime (which seems to be happening more where I live) Come to think of it, I don't think I was ever really afraid so-to-speak. I mean, I was and still am careful but if I die, I die. I have no one anyways so my departure will be of no consequence.

Guyver Posted August 15 #9 Share Posted August 15 Speaking these things made me think back to the experience I spoke of. I literally should write a book about it. I think it might get play. I was an adventure rider at that time. It’s a person who rides an adventure bike long distances. That means a bike which can be ridden on street or dirt. Some people go to Alaska and back, or South America, that sort of thing. Anyway, I remember riding in going for the Canadian boarder a long story short…and I saw a storm with lightning. But, I was so far away, and I was on the top of a mountain at the time, coming down into a series of valleys….and I had about 30 miles between me and the storm. And it looked like it was headed south and I was going East by North East. And I was able to avoid it. But, coming down, I got in one and literally thought I was going to die.

That sounds very scary indeed. I have had a couple of close calls myself. As I grow older and unfortunately have witnessed deaths of those close to me I have come to accept my mortality and choose to live my life fully to make every moment count. 3

Coil Posted August 15 #12 Share Posted August 15 I am not afraid of death but when you die you want to live and your body desperately fights for life. I have left my body several times so I know that after death I will simply leave my body and this world. I would like to get to the world where my spiritual teacher and his disciples live but this is a high level and ordinary people are not allowed there, there is a strict selection so preparation is needed to get there but still my intentions are such after death.

+ouija ouija Posted August 15 #21 Share Posted August 15 I am puzzled as to why some posters here say they are not frightened of dying because it is inevitable. I don't see the logic in this. Surely that would make it even more terrifiying, the fact that it can't be avoided? 5

I've come to think diet and exercise are good of course, but they just slow down the inevitable so not that big of a deal. And maybe I should avoid riling you to up reduce stressing your heart (LOL).
