Fogwalker Posted September 2 #1 Share Posted September 2 Ok, so we know the names for these things - but has there been any evidence or anything related to old myths in the modern era? The only things I can think of are things that PT Barnum showed about almost a hundred and twenty years ago, but those have long since been debunked. 4

Sir Wearer of Hats Posted September 2 #6 Share Posted September 2 I believe trolls tend to give themselves grandiose titles and nonsense names like Lord Socks-and-Sandals or Madame Choser-of-Dinner.

I think they are memories of our smaller cousins in the hominid family tree. For example Homo Floresienses and we have always personified nature and human nature into "spirits". 8

Well, the first time I saw them was with my sister, when we were in a rented SUV in the eucalypt forests of Australia, in a largely deserted camping spot around the town of Eden. It was a hot night and I woke up needing to go to the toilet. I found my sister was unable to sleep and was toasting the last of the marshmallows, so after I finished up, I went and sat with her. It was about 90F. We noticed a set of shiny little red eyes in a bush nearby. As we watched, more eyes appeared, and then a couple of them fluttered out of cover, so we waved at them and waved back at us, then flew away. They were tiny, and we saw them at a range of about 30'. They were about 8" tall, and had wings. They all appeared to be male, pale skinned, wearing odd bonnet hats and loincloths, and carried spears that looked like repurposed chopsticks. My sister and I discussed it for a long while before we got tired and went inside to try to sleep again. 1 5

I live about 4 miles from the Cottingley fairy sightings, I took my daughter to the house, to show her it from the outside, the then new owner (an actor from TV soap) came out and invited us in to let my daughter see out at the back of the house, they had built new homes there now which spoilt the beck. We have several places around here in our woodlands where there have been sightings, we visited them all, but sadly didn't see anything. I still look when I am out on the moors or in the woods. Thanks again for your story, can you tell us your second sighting? 3
+ouija ouija Posted September 2 #12 Share Posted September 2 @Alchopwn Were the little creatures as solid as you and your sister or did they have an ethereal quality to them?

Completely solid on that occasion. They were basically skinny little 8" tall winged guys in odd bonnet hats with chopstick spears. No facial hair and lean features, perhaps even pinched and a bit malnourished looking. I couldn't see their ears under their bonnets, but if they were girls, they were very flat chested. I don't know why they showed themselves, but it was pretty obvious that we knew "something" was there and looking at us, I suppose. I actually wondered if they wanted to kidnap my sister, as she was very petite and fae looking at 6 years old. Their wings seemed to be like dragonflies. They may well have been hungry, and attracted to the smell of the burned marshmallows. I was 10 btw. My sister loved to burn her marshmallows rather than toast them. That's just a guess of course. I left some food out for them where we saw them, but it was still there the next morning. My sister and I discuss that event now and again. We have both seen faeries since then on a few occasions, but that was the only time we both saw the same faeries. Some people get to see ghosts, UAPs and sasquatches. I get faeries. We're talking about much smaller humanoids. Edited September 2 by Abramelin 2

Tatetopa Posted September 2 #21 Share Posted September 2 What a time that must have been when several Homo species inhabited a landscape filled with large game and large predators and chance encounters. More romantic than scientific, but did it shape us and our memories in a way that outlasts oral tradition? We may have dulled our senses to shut out some of the cacophony of civilization, but once, we were at home as near apex predators in nearly every environment. A few hundred thousand years of Homo genus memories merged with our own 50k might have left some imprint that 6k of civilization hasn't eradicated. 3

If you think about it, having faeries being a distant part of the earlier human family, the idea of changelings becomes something totally different and a sort of warning to parents and peoples about how earlier chains in the human bond may be trying to infiltrate into a more modern form of humanity.

As the dragons could be memories of our ancient cousins who may have discovered the dinosaur fossils and understably misinterpreted them as the remains of dragons.
