Are people more honest when they're drunk?

The old Latin adage "In vino veritas" — meaning "In wine, there is truth" — is just one of a litany of sayings perpetuating the idea that alcohol is a sort of truth serum. The phrase is attributed to Pliny the Elder, a Roman scientist, historian and soldier, though similar aphorisms can be traced back even further, to ancient Greece.

But does alcohol really make people more honest? The answer is both yes and no, experts told Live Science.

The best place to gather intel is in the local pub or with a group of locals boozing it up.

You forgot the "sober" guy standing around out front of the liquor store begging for money...

That's a treasure trove of information for a handful of change 😆

Ma used to say…”A drunk man’s words are a sober man’s thoughts”

Similar to my dad's saying " a drunken man speaks a sober mind "

Sure can…Most of a Day sometimes!   The entire 20+ years that I drank whiskey to Extremes seems quite foggy…I remember the years before the clearest!  ..and the years after,  just less clearly.        The idea of a drunken man’s words being more honest often does work …up to a point,  and then all bets are off!

Does a person that lies to themselves tell the truth when they are drunk? I think not so why would they tell you the truth.

I'm more a smoker than a drinker. I'm pretty much the same but funnier and happier when I'm drunk, I've never spilt the beans or been aggressive but I have been a bit too honest which when you're married can be dangerous as in, if you lost a little weight you'd look great in those jeans 😊🏌️‍♀️🤕.

Why, I'm 61 and outlived in age all the male family members, everyone dies whatever they do or don't do.

True Piney but I gave up for 3 years and put on so much weight I couldn't function, not eating more either. I was also very quick tempered which was bad for everyone around me.
