jethrofloyd Posted September 7 #3 Share Posted September 7 Oh, gosh! I am happy there are no such monsters in Europe. (The Loch Ness monster is enough).
Jon the frog Posted September 7 #4 Share Posted September 7 (edited) Do they eat it or something ? Look like a waste if they don't. Edited September 7 by Jon the frog

The meat is edible and the hide would provide a lot of leather if correctly skinned and tanned. I've never eaten Gator but I've seen it on menus in Mississippi. I don't think a gator would necessarily have to be very aged to be that size in that environment, but I'm not certain of that. They have a tremendous amount of food available to them there. We lived for several years next to the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Rankin County - in central Mississippi - and gators were a common sight. There were many neighborhood boat launch areas and folks had to be mindful of their dogs around them.

We literally had gators come up in our backyard when I was a kid,had to learn to keep an eye out early on lol Eta That was Baton Rouge, not Mississippi. +susieice Posted September 7 #8 Share Posted September 7 My nephew has eaten gator and he liked it. I opted for an ostrich burger. It was good too.

We bought a pontoon boat for outings on that Reservoir and people swam in it but a lot of the locals thought we were crazy to do it.

nevins Posted September 9 #13 Share Posted September 9 Some years back here in the UK a supermarket chain called Iceland started selling what you could say was exotic meets. They sold kangaroo, ostrich & crocodile burgers as well as ostrich fillets. I also thought crocodile tasted like chicken. The food was cheap as is Iceland's way but they no longer sell these products. As for the Gator i would of been pleased to see it live out it's days if it wasn't a problem in the area. An impressive animal indeed, however i'm sure i've seen bigger. Big for the state though.
