As long as she doesn’t start playing silly word games or sink to Trump’s level of petty insults, Harris will not lose any votes, because she needs to keep the swing voters on side/lure them to the polling booth. 
Trump will not lose any votes unless he does something massively egregious like show empathy, because he’s not aiming at the swing voters, he’s aiming at keeping the folks who like him liking him.

In a debate against Trump, Harris has several advantages that could work in her favor. Presidential debate are always contentious. Even the last one, I saw people trying to claim Trump lost and Biden won the debate. But for the sake of some kind of metric, I'm posting the current bookmaker odds for Trump and Harris (and everyone else still potentially in with a chance). After the debate I'll post the odds again. Theoretically if one side has a clearly better debate than the other then that should be reflected in the odds markets (eg, after the first debate, Joe Biden had gone from the $2.20 outsider to the $5 outsider). If Harris beats Trump (or vice versa) there should be a swing to the democrats (or Republicans) in the odds. 

It's not perfect, and whomever loses will probably find reasons to complain why they won anyway,  but it is what it is.

In my narrative: I would not be shocked to see him in Vegas next year at his hotel pretending he is Don Rickles, or he can be the next Rush Limbaugh, there is an opening. 😇

I love it when Democrats talk about unity. It makes me laugh out loud every time. They spend all of five or ten minutes pulling that painfully out of the backside then spend the rest of the time trashing Trump and his supporters. I just saw an ad for her that showed Obama making fun of the size of the crowds, a quip he used during the convention. The DNC convention proved it conclusively. Granted, they didn't have much to talk about with Harris besides being a black female. They certainly didn't want to bring up her radical, far left history but mostly all they did was trash Trump.

The RNC convention was all about the future and what needs to be done. I don't remember anyone degrading Democrats. They walk the walk.

Have you seen the sheer number of people in the last 24 hours claiming Trump was going to chicken out and not show up? There's at least two I've seen here on UM, and heaps more elsewhere. It's like they forgot what happened at the first debate (I'm not claiming Trump will win as easily as he won the first debate, but to claim he's running scared and isn't going to show at all just shows how out of touch some of these people are).

There isn't a next one planned though, and if Harris loses I guarantee you she won't agree to a second one. Now I've just said the exact opposite to Tate, and regardless if we can ever agree on which candidate "won" or "lost" then there simply won't be another debate, period.

For the sake of transparency, the debate starts in 6 minutes. I won't be able to watch it as I'm at work, but it's hilarious that they're still leaving the door ajar for him to bail out of the debate  

Who knows, maybe he'll get a covid diagnosis three minutes before the debate starts
