pellinore Posted September 13 #1 Share Posted September 13 (edited) A teacher who held a placard at a pro-Palestine protest depicting Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman as coconuts has been found not guilty of a racially aggravated public order offence. Marieha Hussain, 37, denied the prosecution’s allegation that the placard was “racially abusive” and her trial at Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard that she “quite obviously does not have a racist bone in her body”. Hussain denied and was acquitted of the charge on Friday, prompting claps and cheers from her supporters in the public gallery. District judge Vanessa Lloyd said: “I find that it was part of the genre of political satire and, as such, the prosecution have not proved to the criminal standard that it was abusive. Or is this ably demonstrating a two tier crime and punishment system?

Or is this ably demonstrating a two tier crime and punishment system? Well, it's probably because they were protesting not rioting, and were carrying placards and not pushing burning bins at police or buildings, or throwing bricks at our police and carrying cudgels. There is definitely a two-tier crime and punishment system- criminals get treated as criminals, and non-criminals don't get treated as criminals. Don't you agree it is a pretty fair system?
Claira Posted September 13 #4 Share Posted September 13 Silly woman. She could have easily avoided a court appearance by carrying a placard calling for the extermination of all Jews. But no, she had to go and cause a national stir by holding up a poster with coconuts on it. 3

Sir Wearer of Hats Posted September 14 #6 Share Posted September 14 A little dusky skinned girl about to have a baby. As if she was going to get done for racism. Little Tommy Ten-Names would be in gaol by now for the same thing. 1

Or put it this way, if I had to do three years of hard time, I would rather it was with her than with a tattooed thug with an uncontrollable urge to give Nazi salutes.
