Our cell phones are down:( is it happening to any one else ?

That has absolutely nothing to do with a small piece of rock which, at its closest to Earth, will be nearly three times further away than the moon.

In fact the asteroid actually passed by Earth over 11 hours ago.

Asteroid 2024 ON will safely fly past Earth on 17 September 2024 at 10:17 UTC (12:17 CEST). It is between 210 and 500 m across and will briefly pass within one million km of our planet.

No it's not!!! If you are going to argue with people about the links you provide it would probably be a good idea to read them properly first.

This link you have provided:

is from a totally different story about a totally different asteroid and was, as @and-then correctly says, from a totally different decade.

That's a very good question... and one which has hurt my brain thinking about  even though I'm involved with it.

As far as I can work it out docyabut2 has decided that an asteroid, which had passed the Earth 11 hours previously at a distance 2.6 times greater than the moon  was somehow affecting her cell phone signal. She then tried to justify this belief by linking to a story about an unrelated asteroid which had an absolutely miniscule chance of hitting a communications satellite (but didn't) 11 years ago... despite this current asteroid being 30ish time further away than communications satellites and cell phones not using communications satellites anyway.

I think that just about sums it up. I bet you wish you hadn't asked now.
