If you're in a lot of pain, being told to take deep breaths and accept the sensations in your body might not feel particularly comforting.

But new research analyzing pain signatures in MRI scans suggests mindfulness meditation as pain relief goes beyond the placebo effect of expecting a response – it actually produces a very real reduction in pain.

I remember talking to a man who was a home care nurse to cancer patients and one of his patients quit taking her oxycodone and oxycontin.   He asked her why and she said the meds only gave her relief from a scale of 10 pain to a scale of 5 pain and she started doing hatha yoga and got the same results as the meds, so why waste money on the meds.

I chant rude mantras when I meditate.  It relieves the pain of human company too.

I chant the rude ones when I am driving.   🤣
