Mike Johnson won't commit to bringing House back before the election for more hurricane relief

They're not waiting until after the election to receive the $750. You clearly didn't even know its purpose.

Some more information for you. This is after hurricane beryl.

How long will it take?
While it’s impossible to predict exactly how long it will be before residents see a check from FEMA, eligible residents generally receive payments for Serious Needs Assistance and Displacement Assistance within a month of filling out the application.
Once filed, applicants should expect a reply in roughly a week regarding eligibility. For the May derecho storm, users on social media said they waited anywhere from one week to a little over a month from the date of acceptance before they were paid. Cindy Rivas Alfaro, a student at the University of Houston, said she waited about three weeks for assistance after the derecho.

“So for the derecho, I applied May 22 and then I got the acceptance on the 28th,” Alfaro said. “I got the money like two to three weeks later.”

Congress will be back in session immediately after the election. So yeah it's safe to assume people will still be waiting for their check after Congress reconvenes.

This thread is all about politizing the hurricane relief that you started.

Yes , and who's plan is that? I wonder why .

Pressed on whether he would call Congress back into session before the election, Johnson replied, “We’ll be back in session immediately after the election.”

Translation: We don't want to help with the hurricane while it could possibly help Dems in the upcoming election.

Meanwhile people will die.

Yep, maga gop tool.

I've already posted the information about the 750 dollars and how long it will take to actually get the money and it coincides with about the same time Congress reconvenes. That money is separate from any extra spending on the hurricane damage.

If you'll take the time to read the whole article and actually comprehend what Johnson is stating.

Pressed on whether he would call Congress back into session before the election, Johnson replied, “We’ll be back in session immediately after the election.”

“That’s 30 days from now. The thing about these hurricanes and disasters of this magnitude is it takes a while to calculate the actual damages, and the states are going to need some time to do that,” Johnson said, adding that determining “specific needs and requests based upon the actual damages” from natural disasters takes time.

Johnson noted that before Congress went on recess, the day before Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida, Congress appropriated $20 billion additional dollars to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to address immediate needs.

“Then after that, Congress always takes its the due approach of providing what is necessary,” he said. “Congress will provide. We will help people in these disaster-prone areas. It’s an appropriate role for the federal government, and you’ll have bipartisan support for that, and it’ll all happen in due time, and we’ll get that job done. There shouldn’t be any concern about that.”

I've also posted Mayorkas making the statement that FEMA had enough money for now but would need more later and Johnson addressed the extra money in his statement.

Where do you see the need for Congress to hold an emergency session? Because you think they should? So Congress reconvenes and allocates say 30 billion but the total bill will be closer to 60 billion.

What makes you think that reconvening Congress will speed up the process of damage assessment and the actual clean up and rebuilding? Rebuilding from the devastation will be counted in years not months. Even after that there will be people left out because FEMA will make determinations on who gets the help and not everyone will qualify even if they need the help.

This is just common sense.

I've read what he's saying . But he has the ability to bring them to reconvene if needed. Biden is calling for more aid even now with emergency funding requests like for the small business disaster loan program , which it looks like will run out of funding before they reconvene.

Because there's another hurricane heading towards Florida in a couple days? I understand that the funding will take time , but it looks like more could be addressed , like with emergency funding requests , a lot of people are in dire straights down there , and it looks like it could get worse. If they sit on their ass for 6 weeks , it will take even longer. So thats how it looks either way , the people down there are screwed now , while congress gonna take a 6 week vacation. It may not be an immediate need to go to session , but possibly quite soon under the circumstances. Below they don't mention funerals , but it's an ugly reality and part of that assistance as well.

I requested more funding for SBA multiple times over the past several months, and most recently, my Administration underscored that request as you prepared a continuing resolution to fund the Government.  Now the need is even more urgent.  Small businesses and individuals in affected areas depend on disaster loans as a critical lifeline during difficult times.  In fact, for individual disaster survivors, SBA loans are often the largest source of Federal disaster recovery funds.  Renters and homeowners use these loans to repair and rebuild their homes as well as replace or repair damaged property including their personal vehicles, while businesses use them to cover basic operating expenses.  The Congress must act to restore this funding.

Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution gives the president the authority to reconvene Congress for extraordinary circumstances.

If the situation is that dire, why doesn't he do just that.

Seems like a political ploy to cause dissent before elections not so different than last January where aide to Israel, Ukraine and border issues were politically played. Too bad the govt is willing to manipulate people in distress to gain leverage.
