Trump rejects Fox News invite to debate Harris in late October

Oct 9 (Reuters) - Republican former President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he will not debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, hours after Fox News invited the two presidential contenders to participate in a possible second debate on either Oct. 24 or Oct. 27.

Trump and Harris debated each other for the first time on Sept. 10. Trump has said there would not be another debate before the Nov. 5 election. He rejected a past invitation from CNN for an Oct. 23 debate, accepted by Harris.

Trump and Harris face each other in what polls show to be a tight race for the Nov. 5 U.S. elections.

In its statement, Fox said a second debate "would present an opportunity for each candidate to make their closing arguments."

Last week, Harris' running mate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz debated Trump's running mate and U.S. Senator JD Vance.

"THERE WILL BE NO REMATCH," Trump said on his Truth Social platform. "SO THERE IS NOTHING TO DEBATE."

As expected. Trump has little to gain and lots to lose by debating her so close to the election. At least this is Fox making the gesture this time.

Why would Trump agree to another rigged debate? When it'll favor Harris as in this 60 min interview.

Everyone was fine with the interview until Trump went nuts over Truth Social.

In fact, even people here said they didn't hold back.

But somehow this previously tough interview is now one where they went easy on her.

Funny that.

I totally agree with you.   But if you follow US politics, many people make up their minds in the last couple of months and we frequently have what is called an October surprise, Hunter's laptop or Putin and Trump talking on the phone as examples. I don't even think timing matters in this case. Trump is progressing rapidly into old age before our eyes.

Do your bookmakers offer any odds as to which year JD Vance will replace Trump if he is elected?

That may have been true up until 60 minutes posted the unedited version.

That's what we asked about Kamala in 2020

Yeah, so they should be ready to post the odds.

Given that trump is both mentally and physically superior to what Biden was in 2020 I would bet he would last four years.

No.  In my estimation biden fit the word dotard perfectly in 2019.  Trump is a liar, and narcissist, a loud mouth and not the man he was when he was in his prime but I don't read him as actually feeble.  Biden is and has been actually feeble for years.

Feeble? Trump can't lift a glass of water without using both hands.

And have you actually read any of his speech transcripts? Complete word salad.

Why would I read a transcript of he or Harris?? 😕 I would never vote for them no matter what they said.

Are you suggesting that if the media appropriately reported on Hunter's laptop that it would have changed the election result? The allegation about Putin and Trump doesn't seem to be making that much of a deal in the minds of potential voters. Maybe a better "October surprise" is waiting around the corner...

Lol, that's what conservatives were saying right up until Joe Biden dropped out of the race. You didn't listen to us when we told you in 2020 that Biden was declining, I don't suppose it's right to expect us to believe you now, especially when the evidence shows he is far more stable than Biden was at the equivalent point in his campaign (they literally had to hide Biden in his basement throughout 2020).

As far as I know the bookies offer no such markets. However, if they did, I reckon Trump would have a better chance of making it through than Biden would have if they offered the same market on him 4 years ago - he was already showing signs of dementia and cognitive decline way back in 2020, no one who has followed politics was surprised by his showing at the first debate, many (myself included) expected Biden to step down sometime after 2022 to give Kamala the chance to run 2 full terms, but that was before Biden ran for re-election.

Since we're talking about the bookies, it is worth pointing out that Trump has firmed in the betting again. He is now ahead of what he was before the debate. Every gain that Harris made has been erased according to sportsbet. It's still very close, so I'm not using this to say Trump will win (as I ALWAYS say, underdogs win all the time and this is such a close race that it could go either way). But it's better to be ahead than behind, I say that a lot too.

Yes, it seems Biden is physically feeble.  He seemed to be very confused and Mitch McConnel-like at times.  Other times he seem prescient.  Trump is not feeble, but that means little.  My mother in law at 85 could beat up  any other patient in the Alzheimer facility.  They had to put her in isolation, no social activities.

Trump is the picture of a get off my lawn, there outta be a law fist shaking  confused old man.  He is a mean grandpa that one would not like to have in charge of their life decisions. At least the Dems had sense to invite Joe to retire, better late than never.

No, not suggesting that about Hunter or Trump and Putin.  My point was that it is not too late to debate because many people forget what happens  before the last couple of months of the election cycle.  An October surprise may be in the works to torpedo either candidate.

Right you are, we did not listen to you in 2020 about Biden.  I think you jumped the gun a bit, but there you go.  No worries.  You are free to be as stupid as *******s if you want.  So, maybe you should go ahead with Trump. At this point, it is too late to do anything else.

Did you read any more detail about the editing? It's not what it seems , it's always been this way , even when Trumpy boy did his past 60 mins interviews. In the 60 mins interview , Harris answers with the full answer from both places , face the nation just does not show the whole answer in their segment. And with the Fox invite , why would fox rig anything as they are Trumps mouthpiece?

Trump's complaints about '60 Minutes' put a spotlight on editing at the nation's top newsmagazine | AP News

Doubt it, but believe what you will.  They made him out to be a hero and let him ride off into the sunset.  They got him offstage before he pooped his diaper in a temper tantrum. Its a better look for America   Do you really think it would be worth the risk to have let him run?  Many of us would have voted for him over Trump even if he was in a box, Kamala would have taken over.  That is how much we distrust Trump.  Biden might have won.

You are so darn wise,

Thats just it, thinking rational Americans the bulk of the country confimed by 2020 show that had biden not stepped down he still would have beaten trump,

Trump aka convicted felon man had his chance2016 his life costing bumbling self serving incompetent failure term cost him that chance and showed the American people their 2016 mistake.
