Astronomers Find New Stellar Neighbour

Astronomers peering deep into the Milky Way have accidentally discovered what appears to be the third-closest star system to Earth. And more unnoticed stellar neighbours may be forthcoming.

The new star, catchily named SO25300.5+165258, is only 7.8 light years away - a mere stone's throw in our 100,000 light-year-wide galaxy - but is so faint it hasn't been previously seen.
