Brief Life History of Joseph

Quote

When Joseph Hiatt was born in 1844, in Ohio, United States, his father, Christopher Columbus Hiatt, was 56 and his mother, Elizabeth Parsons, was 46. He had at least 5 sons with Cynthia Ann Thorn. He lived in Gill Township, Sullivan, Indiana, United States in 1880. He died on 25 September 1899, at the age of 55.

My Mom`s maiden name is Hiatt, Christopher Columbus Hiatt is my great great grandfather Christopher Columbus Hiatt,

so I`m wondering am I a descendent  of Christopher Columbus or was it just a name put on Christopher Columbus Hiat ?

They just took the name. Like in my family we have both a William Penn and Martin Luther Haines but we aren't related to either.

But Why do some people have so many names?
3. Honoring relatives: Some people want to honor their parents, grandparents, or other family members. For example, if a person wants to honor their father and grandfather, then the child may have a first name, father's name, grandfather's name, surname.

Some names honor famous people. George Washington Carver for example. John Wesley Adam's (another of my relatives).

I named my son after Gentle Jesse, father of King David. My Little Ninja is named Matthew after the Book and Disciple.

No because the historical figure we call 'Christopher Columbus' actual name was Chritobol Colon, he was Italian.   For some reason the english like to change people's names to fit their language, rather than let them keep their real name.

I think your great grerat grandfather's parents were like my great great grandfather's parents, naming all their male children by famous people's names, my great great grandfather was Andrew Jackson Lavender, he named my great grandfather and his twin brother Lawence Monroe Lavender and Thomas Jefferson Lavender, but they were not related to those presidents.

Try Geni.com.   You might be able to find it because some other relative of yours entered it online or the birth certificate is online.

Local courthouse marriage licenses or a probated will can tell you that.

Or church documents.

See if the local courthouse also files birth certificates. Our county seat in Woodbury does.

I gave my son Noah “Alexander” for a middle name because several of my favorite historical figures had the name. Alexander the Great, the Russian tsars Alexander I and Alexander II, and the Prussian naturalist Alexander von Humboldt.
