Elon Musk promises to award $1m every day to voters as he steps up campaigning for Trump

Elon Musk said his Trump-supporting political action committee – America Pac – will give $1m every day until election day to someone who signs his petition that effectively encourages Republicans in the key battleground states to register to vote.

The commitment, which started on Saturday as Musk handed a lottery-style check to the first winner of his contest at a town hall event, could mean Musk is on the hook for $17m if he remains the sole donor to his own Pac.

The America Pac petition is for any registered voter in Pennsylvania to pledge their support for the first and second amendments. The petition effectively encourages Trump voters to register to vote so they can be in the $1m draw. Attendees of Saturday’s town hall event had to sign the petition, which allows America Pac to garner contact details for more potential voters that it can work to get to the polls for Trump.

Isn’t that VERY ILLEGAL?

It's actually not illegal surprisingly.

It is illegal to pay people to register to vote and it is illegal to pay people to go vote but what is not illegal is to pay people to sign a petition who just so happen to be registered to vote in some arbitrary state or paying people to get people to sign a petition who just so happen to be registered to vote in some arbitrary state.

Legally it gets close to what is illegal but does not actually break any laws or rules.  How effective it will be or just a massive waste of money is another matter.

He's a U.S. Citizen, the legal way.

I'd vote for Trump for a chance of a million dollars. I'll message Elon and see if I can be registered to vote.

Exactly.

It's officially a side show. This is somehow politics. In America anyway. Astounding how this walks a legal line. Elon has made this election into a joke.

Well when he skirts the line influencing an election or swaying voters, these things can happen if they should find it illegal in any way. Then they will be running around claiming lawfare and witch hunt.

You mean like promising to forgive student debt and when struck down by the SCOTUS they continue with the student debt forgiveness? That is election influencing by legal if not illegal  means also.

Student debt forgiveness type of thing been around since 2017. And Biden's part of it since 2022.

I'm waiting to see if he awards more than one of those.  Trump's been accused (by many investigators) of offering prizes to people for sending him money and then not actually awarding any prizes (or more than a few of them... https://popular.info/p/trump-held-a-contest-to-join-him)

I suspect the first million or two is just to prime the pump.  Musk could easily afford a million a day, but I'm betting he doesn't do that.

I would have thought kicking observers out of an electoral count was illegal too, but no comeback for that.

How is what I said deflecting or protecting.

I get you hate Trump and anyone connected to Trump or anyone that supports Trump but legally while there are laws about offering anything connected to voters there are not laws about doing the same for petition signers.
