On the morning of February 3, 1979, a triangular object glided over Soesterberg airbase. Twelve Air Force Security soldiers watched in amazement. In this article, we share everything we know about what we consider to be the Netherlands' most important UFO incident.

UFO sightings near military bases have been reported multiple times. For example, in October 2024, residents near Grissom Joint Air Reserve Base in Indiana reported seeing swarms of fast-moving, glowing orbs in the sky. Similarly, Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia had sightings of flashing red, green, and white lights moving at rapid speeds.

While some experts suggest these could be military flares or aircraft, others believe they might be something more mysterious.

Impressive enough to be mentioned in the staff magazine De Vliegende Hollander, published by the Ministry of Defence itself.

And I will certainly take their word for it.

I hadn’t heard about the UFO incident over Soesterberg before. It’s amazing how many people saw it and how it’s still talked about today.
