QLD election results: LNP just scrapes in

It was supposed to be over quickly last night, but somewhere in the past fortnight Queenslanders changed the script.

"If someone was expecting me to call the election by now, all I can say is it's not part of my plan," the ABC's election guru, Antony Green, cheekily declared at 8:49pm.

Not surprising that labour got quite some support. Fifty cent fares, free school lunches and rego cuts are good selling points. Smiles was on the beat talking to people.

I think what got the LNP in was adult time for adult crime. That was illustrated as a failure on labour and winning the Olympic games that nobody wanted I think really didn't sit well with many. There's been a lot of major cost blowouts on major infrastructure projects as well.

I reckon Anna might have seen this coming.

10 years of any party is enough reason to vote them out. Was surprised with Miles strong showing. He worked hard and made a lot of promises that were unsustainable but that Crisafulli is boring as bat chit 🦇 and sneaky was hell. Anyway we wait and see

Yep. That's all we can do.

Campbell Newman must surely still be at the top of their heads though. They know if they don't perform it could be another decade before they get a chance again.

Work hard Mr. Chrisafulli. Lots of people to impress.

No real construction work is underway. Cross River rail was already accounted for before this, and the train station upgrades.

It's going to be a last second rush, unless as SWOH suggested, Chrisafulli does a Ann Dandrews and pulls the pin.

Get on the beers after that I suppose......

As you say. Interesting times ahead.

Yeah don’t get me started on the cross river rail. Another white elephant that will struggle to get patronage, just like the Clem 7 - Airport link and Legacy Way. But spot on because time is flying fast with all this inaction.

The main stadium proposals are interesting to say the least. The only one that appeals to me is the quasi Government and private sector proposal for the Port Side stadium.

Looks very cool 😎

Everyone is already busy. Then there's promises of housing. Construction simply might not be able to handle the extra load.

It does look awesome but pretty sure Chrisafulli has his eye on a Gabba upgrade instead. I expect we will have to use a lot of existing infrastructure.

Possibly the Gabba might be upgraded but maybe just tearing it down and selling off the land to fund a new stadium might also be a good alternative, thou the cricket purest might have a word or two about that

The land itself would be worth a significant fortune. However Chrisafulli isn't interested in building anything new.

Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli leaves the door open to rebuild Gabba for 2032 Olympics

Asked about his plans for the Olympics on Sunday, Mr Crisafulli suggested an upgrade or rebuild of the Gabba would be "part of the mix" of his promised review.

"The Olympic infrastructure co-ordination authority will be tasked with making sure that there is exactly what this bid was always about," he said.

"And part of that is making sure that we have world-class venues, and that's certainly one of them."

Which is exactly what Miles was proposing and was repeatedly attacked on by Chrisafulli.
