+susieice Posted November 1 #1 Share Posted November 1 Wildfires are breaking out all over the northeast. For my area, we've had record breaking heat where we hit 80 F during this week and after a weekend cool down to the 60's the temps will go back up. No rain for 34 days now and many of us are under a draught watch. Burn bans everywhere here. JVG Posted November 1 #3 Share Posted November 1 @susieiceSo far nothing here susie and we are under a burn ban. There’s a neighbor who burns frequently and they have been warned but they continue to ignore the rule. The wind has picked up quite a bit and sooner or later there will be a wild fire and with nothing but state game lands behind us it could happen here… 4

People just don't listen and they are really risking a bad thing! Stay safe. I hope everybody and their property will be ok. It is windy here also. Our weather report was temps in the 60s for the weekend then back up to the upper 70's. No rain chance in sight for at least next week. The whole northeast is a tinderbox at the moment.
Hankenhunter Posted November 2 #5 Share Posted November 2 (edited) We were living under a burn ban for 3 1/2 months. The last few days is the first real rain we've gotten, but it came as snow first. We still have fires out of control, but none threatening any towns or cities. More snow on the way. I hope you guys get some relief soon. +susieice Posted November 3 Author #12 Share Posted November 3 (edited) I worry that a much larger fire will break out also. There's a lot of woods here but not as thick as on the mountains. I'm only about 20 miles from the mountains but in my immediate area, we have a lot of farmland. That's why so many brushfires are breaking out here. I haven't heard anything about the Jersey Pinelands. Those woods are thick and have often burned. Piney would know more about that. I'm glad his MIL is safe. That's the most important thing. I hope we get some relief soon before something really bad happens. The weather reports aren't promising at all. Hopefully luck will stay on our side. The fire depts are doing a good job tackling these fires but I've heard of at least a dozen in the last couple days. This one on Blue Mountain is still burning out of control. It's really bad. Bethlehem is about 25 miles away and they can see it. The video report is good. I haven't been outside but I hear it's kind of smoky. +susieice Posted November 4 Author #15 Share Posted November 4 They're going to control burn to try and starve the fire. I wish them luck and safety while they do this. Blue Mountain fire spreads to 150 acres in Lehigh Township | Northampton-county | wfmz.com Blue Mountain in Lehigh Township is "back burning" on Sunday evening to deprive the fire of fuel. Officials say that the fire is being drawn to areas that have already burned so that without fuel, it will extinguish. "They have dozer lines in there right now. There's three bulldozers up there and there's two helicopters still making helicopter drops onto the fire to slow the progression," said Brian Krische, Assistant Chief with the Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company. Krische said a controlled burn is underway. "We're going to start at the low base of the fire where the controlled cuts have been put into place, so the fire doesn't spread to the back of homes, but we're going to burn the mountain up to the burned-out area already to stop any further progression," said Krische.

+susieice Posted November 5 Author #23 Share Posted November 5 Officials don't expect Blue Mountain brush fire to spread any further, containment efforts continue | Lehigh Valley Regional News | wfmz.com The wildfire that started over the weekend on Blue Mountain in Northampton County has more than tripled in size over the last 24 hours. Dry conditions have made it difficult for crews to get a handle on it. Officials say the brush fire is 25% contained and that 577 acres have burned. You can still see some smoke seeping up from the bottom of the mountain. "We're looking really good and we're going into what's called a mop up phase.. so we're not expecting the fire to advance any further, even though we're only at 25% containment, we do not expect the fire to go any further because we don't have 100% confidence," Hyland continued to say.
