Israeli commandos nab top Hezbollah naval operative in north Lebanon raid

Israeli naval commandos captured a Hezbollah official in a raid in northern Lebanon late Friday, the military confirmed on Saturday night, marking an unusual operation both in its nature and location deep inside the country.

Lebanese media reported that Israeli special forces arrived from the sea and raided a chalet on the coast of Batroun, south of Tripoli, and took one person with them before leaving the area in speedboats.

The raid took place some 140 kilometers (87 miles) north of Israel’s maritime border with Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces later confirmed that the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit had carried out the operation.

That is really interesting...

It immediately crossed my mind of why they would go through so much effort to nab him alive, while even bigger names and targets have been being outright executed by multiple different means.

Sowing doubt within their highest level of counsels would be a very valuable tool in this war.  Imagine being a loyal member who happens to be too close to some operation and your own guys decide to take you out.  That would be corrosive, top to bottom.

Israel's arrest of senior Hezbollah operative could change the game, expert predicts

After Israeli commandos apprehended a senior Hezbollah operative who specialized in maritime activities in the town of Batrun in northern Lebanon, Prof. Amatzia Baram, an expert in Middle Eastern studies, explained the Shayetet 13’s special operation had a significant impact on the terror organization and may even force it to move its bases and adjust its plans. Baram's comments came in a recent interview with Maariv.

Transferred to Israel and questioned by Unit 504, the detained Hezbollah operative holds the potential to reveal valuable intelligence about Hezbollah's naval capabilities.
