Claira Posted November 6 Author #2 Share Posted November 6 Iran says student in underwear protest moved to ‘specialized care center’ An Iranian student who stripped to her underwear in Tehran in protest at alleged harassment over her clothing was transferred to a center of “specialized care,” Iran’s embassy to Paris says. “The student in question suffers from psychological fragility and was transferred by an ambulance of the emergency social services to a specialized care center,” it says in a statement, without giving further details on the nature of the center. Concern has grown over the whereabouts and welfare of the young woman, with activists worried authorities could confine her in a psychiatric institution. https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/iran-says-student-in-underwear-protest-moved-to-specialized-care-center/

Claira Posted November 19 Author #7 Share Posted November 19 There's some good news coming out of Iran for a change: Iran says no charges filed against student who stripped to underwear Iran’s judiciary says it has not issued an indictment against a student who stripped down to her underwear earlier this month at a university in Tehran. “Considering that she was sent to the hospital, and it was found that she was ill, she was handed over to her family… and no judicial case has been filed against her,” judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir tells a news conference, without naming her. https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/iran-says-no-charges-filed-against-student-who-stripped-to-underwear/
Tatetopa Posted November 19 #8 Share Posted November 19 Pleading ignorance here. How much more restrictive does Iran have to be to reach Afghanistan levels of repression. 1

How much more restrictive does Iran have to be to reach Afghanistan levels of repression. Women in Iran are significantly better off than their counterparts in Afghanistan (they are permitted an education, employment, etc.), but Iranian authorities have recently escalated their assault against women's rights, primarily through an increasingly violent crackdown on those who defy compulsory veiling laws. The fear, naturally, is that such draconian laws will lead to more laws of the same ilk.
