Popular Post Claira Posted November 8 Popular Post #1 Share Posted November 8 As US election exit polls began to point to a second presidency for Donald Trump, many Americans were already looking for another kind of exit: moving abroad. Google searches for "move to Canada" surged 1,270% in the 24 hours after US East Coast polls closed on Tuesday, company data shows. Similar searches about moving to New Zealand climbed nearly 2,000% while those for Australia jumped 820%. Late Wednesday evening on the US East Coast, Google searches about emigrating were hitting all-time highs for all three countries, according to a Google official. https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/article-828132 1
+Desertrat56 Posted November 8 #2 Share Posted November 8 (edited) The question in your title is moot because in 4+ years the florida man will be 82 if he hasn't had a stroke or heart attack, he will be too old and too far into dementia to run a next term. You do bring up an interesting point though. I am going to research the wording to see if "two terms" is only relevant consecutively or totally. Found it: no one can have more than two terms period. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/amendments/amendment-xxii Edited November 8 by Desertrat56

At the same time, however, I can see how countries with universal healthcare, unrestricted access to abortions, and equally high standards of living might have an appeal to some Americans.

Yes, if they actually follow through then it's probably a good thing for everyone. 5

Except for the countries they move too. In my best Rod Serling voice. Imagine if you will! A horde of entitled people invading your shores demanding that their latte's be made to their specific instructions. 2 1

Can't see too many coming to the UK, we don't go in for gated communities here, they'd have to mingle with ordinary people. I thought I heard recently that in the UK elections , they did like the opposite of what happened in US, and voted out all of what would be the equivalent of the right wing , and voted in what would be the equivalent of the left wing. I’m not sure , but I heard that so that’s why I am asking.

Yes that's right, and wealthy people are making plans to leave the country, cuz over here left wing governments mean higher taxes on everyone. (they are big on the welfare state and people need to be taxed to pay for it..... unless you've just rocked up in a rubber dinghy of course). simplybill Posted November 8 #19 Share Posted November 8 It looks cowardly to pack up and leave the country just because your candidate lost. It’s a 4-year term! Instead of ‘run-and-hide’, how about ‘stay-and-fight’ for your beliefs’? (Not literal fighting, of course).

I agree, but both sides seem to have some that have become religiously indoctrinated by their party's... Watch some of the rallies and people being interviewed afterwards, it's so similar to looking and sounding like a televangelist mega event it's chilling. Candidate loses = no God Very strange.

We have friends that own a computer store near Seattle. Possibly because of Boeing issues as well, foreign firms are recruiting computer professionals. Iceland, Scandinavia, especially Finland, plus Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and Croatia are enticing American professionals. Nothing from Great Britain, doesn't seem there are excess opportunities there.

I'm sure Alec Baldwin has a mediocre performance or two left in him...France maybe 🤔 2
