pellinore Posted November 14 #1 Share Posted November 14 (edited) An iconic Aussie Christmas tradition held for almost 70 years will not go ahead amid fears the family friendly event could be hijacked by pro-Palestinian activists. The famous annual Myer Christmas window reveal planned for Sunday at its Melbourne CBD in Bourke Street has been cancelled due to safety concerns from a planned pro-Palestine protest. The department store giant confirmed on Thursday the beloved Christmas tradition will not go ahead. 'In light of recent developments and to ensure the wellbeing and safety of customers and team members, we will no longer hold an event on Bourke Street Mall for the unveiling of our Christmas windows,' a Myer spokesperson said. Probably a wise move given that children would most likely have attended, but yes, cowards. Had countries not been complacent when pro-Palestinian protests first turned ugly, these groups would not have been an issue now.

They should cancel the protest not the celebration which has been going on for 70 years. They applied for a permit to hold the protest so revoke until a later or earlier time. 6

It's obvious its timing is no coincidence. It was the protesters' intention to disrupt the celebration, and now they've succeeded in forcing it to cancel. 4

Now now - cancelling that protest would be useless, as it’d be called “racist” and they’d protest anyway, expect they’d have the added anger value because they were “silenced by the pro-Zionist bullies in the government”. The people who planned the protest knew it was the Christmas window reveal they chose it to cause chaos.

Why go to live in a country if the religion and traditions offend you? I sometimes think, those people who are offended by Western dress codes and general secularism as well as religious traditions should make their homes in somewhere like Afghanistan and see if they prefer it. They are only allowed to protest in the West because our constitutions allow it- back where they think they belong they would get imprisonment or worse for taking to the streets. 2

Tell people. Let's just say I wouldn't want to be walking the mall in Melbourne today holding a Gaza sign. That hasn't helped those idiots, it's put them in a spotlight. We don't have guns because we are quite mad and dangerous enough without them. Comes from living in a country where the land constantly tries to kill you. Stupid to upset the locals. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this turn around yet.

Ajay0 Posted November 15 #16 Share Posted November 15 The sheer hatred and intolerance is nauseating, especially since 'loving the neighbor' is one of the prominent themes of Christmas. Religious identities seems to have taken priority over religious values.

Honestly? 95% (and that”s a generous 4% margin) of those protesting aren’t Palestinian, aren’t whichever brand of Islam they follow and most likely aren’t even Muslim let alone foreigners. it has next to nothing to do with Palestine and more to do with protesting for the sake of protesting, I mean the BLAK RIGHTS movement here have made themselves part of the Palestinian protests because “they’re oppressed, genocided and have had their lands stolen” as well 2

Newcastle uk. I walked past a Palestinian protest a while ago .half looked like your usual student protester that has a new cause to protest every weekend like it's a hobby.the rest were a mix of older ex hippy types with a few muslim looking people who seemed to be there to make the numbers up.we have a fairly large university in the city and it's obvious most of the hatred is stirred up from there.
psyche101 Posted November 15 #20 Share Posted November 15 Protesters cancel demonstration at Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall Myer Christmas windows event After the backlash, protest organiser Amy Settal told The Age the action would no longer be going ahead. “The children coming to see the Myer Christmas windows were never a target, because children are not a target,” she told the outlet. “In light of Myer’s decision to cancel their window reveal event, planned disruptions will not go ahead.” Om Friday night it was confirmed the launch event still wouldn’t proceed over fears the plans may reconstitute protest activity. Victoria Police have said the group that had planned to disrupt the windows were a splinter group and the usual Palestine rally group had agreed to alter their Sunday protest route to avoid the windows.

They are now know by most here as morons for Palestine. Even the Vic premier called them that in public.
