Haka is a traditional war dance, it’s done at the footy these days because they’re modern warriors.

I'm for ending colonialism, leave natives with their customs.... In 1000 years they will discover wheels....

Modern warriors, my bumhole... Circus clowns, nothing more.

There's a college in the US who has a girl from New Zealand on their women's basketball team. Her family came and surprised her before her opening home game by doing a Haka. I love watching them dance. I also frequently see videos of a Maori dance group from New Zealand who tour and dance at various indigenous festivals and dances worldwide.

Ask what waits woman in old New Zealand for disobeying her man.... Go indigenous customs!

Not a rugby fan but i do enjoy when england play new zealand .they are the top boys.love the haka routine.

Can't help thinking a perfect reply to the haka would be all the england players pointing to the zealands and singing in unison.."you all take it up the ****,you all take it up the **** ".

NZ is very precious about the haka. If it's not respected they become most butthurt.

It basically amounts to a promise of what they're going to do to you, and can come with gestures of extreme violence,eg throat slitting.

I personally think it's a bit rich to expect that to be respected and I love to see teams ignore it ( as the Italians did once. People were upset about that).

Even better would be showing them your backsides. That's extremely offensive to Maori but, in my opinion, no worse than throat cutting gestures.

An All Indigenous Aussie team did a war dance back once, the outrage from New Zealand was pupable.

There is a time and a place for ceremonial traditions, The Haka is just over used these days, probably because of social media oh look at us. the look on the speakers face said it all when he knew what was about to happen. "here we go again"

No wonder New Zealand was colonised, as they prepared to attack, they started to dance, before they could finish the order came shoot. tale from murderers bay.

You're welcome. I think.

I am. But like joc I clear its usage for music although I'm generally Spotify. It's not something I watch.

All I did was google the incident and choose the easy way out.

Music is a general exemption in all social media. Especially so for musicians. Entertainment, not information. Big difference. Sometimes I have to post a YouTube video of a lecture because the original source isn't embedding friendly.

We work with the tools we have.

Hopefully you enjoyed the clips of other instances of the Haka.

NRL does it more than rugby. I'm assuming you are referring to back at the turn of the century.

*YouTube clip especially for Michelle.

I don't think the yanks know they players keep the spears and clubs throughout the game. ..... :innocent:

TBH, I'd prefer to see it without the spears and ring-ins.

Just the players.

Who's 'Jake the Muss'?

Anyway, were Maori customs patriarchal or matriarchal? Huh? Who was the boss of the family?

And all that bs "You obviously never met a Maori woman" doesn't impress me... Hags around the world are the same)))

They tend to be matriarchal, like many pacific islander cultures (and Italians) you don’t mess with the nonnas!

Well... Italian women were given the right to vote in 1946 (link), so much for matriarchy... Ancient Rome? Nope: "Freeborn women in ancient Rome were citizens (cives),[7] but could not vote or hold political office.[8]"(same wiki source). Does it smells matriarchy? Nope.

As for pacific islanders' culture(s)... Are you talking about precolonial era, or modern times (with all women rights)?

You ever met a nonna?
I’ve seen them stare down feral dogs and make them cringe, they’re terrifying… you don’t mess with a nonna.
