Looking for John Zegrus

I first shared my experience on Reddit. Today I'm going to share it with you.

I live in São José do Norte in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. On January 2nd of this year, I was at home with my friend Carla. I was preparing lunch for the two of us.

The doorbell rang, and I went to see who it was, but there was no one at the door. About 5 minutes later, it rang again, but again, there was no one, not even on the street nearby. A few more minutes passed, and it rang a third time. When I opened the door, there was a black cat I had never seen around the neighborhood. It got startled by my presence and ran away.

I went back inside, puzzled by the unusual situation. Carla asked me to turn on the TV, and I returned to the kitchen. She grabbed the remote to check the channels, but the TV wasn’t picking up any signal. All the channels were showing a green screen like a chroma key background. After flipping through several channels, she said there wasn’t anything to watch.

This had never happened before, so I went to the living room to check it out. Indeed, none of the channels were working. After cycling through all the channels, I was about to turn the TV off when a voice came from the TV saying, "Wait, don’t turn it off." We looked at each other, startled, and the voice continued: "My name is John Zegrus, and I need your help. Meet me next Sunday at 5 p.m. at the cemetery on Hell Road. I have a very important mission for you." We couldn’t understand how this unknown voice was coming from the TV without it being tuned to any channel.

We turned off the TV and checked Google Maps to see if there was a cemetery along Hell Road. This was the codename for the BR-101 highway between the cities of Osório/RS and São José do Norte/RS because it wasn’t paved until 15 years ago, and it used to have many potholes and mud when it rained. Looking at the map, we saw that the cemetery mentioned by the voice had to be the one in Vila Bojuru, 70 km from our house.

The following Sunday was January 7th, and we decided to go. When the day arrived, I took my motorcycle, and Carla and I headed to the cemetery. We arrived 15 minutes before the time the TV voice had mentioned. We stayed at the entrance of the cemetery, waiting for someone. After a few minutes, a man around 40 years old really did appear, coming from inside the cemetery. He passed by us and seemed not to notice our presence. We asked if he was John Zegrus, but the man didn’t show any signs of seeing or hearing us.

He would go into the cemetery, disappear from our sight, and then come back out. He did this about four times. Each time he came out, we tried to talk to him. We even recorded a video of him for about two minutes, but for some reason, only the first six seconds of the recording were saved. We were afraid to touch him or follow him into the cemetery as it might have been a trap.

The last time he went into the cemetery, he didn’t return. We waited for about 20 minutes for him to come back, but he never did. So, we decided to head home and tried to forget what had happened.

However, on the last Sunday of September, the 29th, I was at home with Carla to watch the Inter vs. Vitória soccer match. I turned on the TV, and the same thing from the beginning of the year happened again.

The TV wasn’t tuning into any channel, as all of them were showing a green screen. While flipping through a random channel, I heard that same voice coming from the TV, saying: "Don’t turn it off. I am John Zegrus. Meet me at the next eclipse at 5 p.m. at the cemetery on Hell Road. I have a very important mission for you."

We went online to search for when the next eclipse would be and found out that a solar eclipse was going to happen in 4 days, on October 2nd, in the southern hemisphere.

On the day of the eclipse, Carla and I once again rode the motorcycle to the Bojuru cemetery. We decided to record everything from the moment we arrived. However, we left the house late and got there around 5:20 p.m. We thought John Zegrus might have come and left already. We waited at the cemetery gate, hoping he would appear. The eclipse was happening at that moment. In our region, the eclipse was visible at about 30%, but we hadn’t brought special glasses to look directly at the sun. We missed this natural spectacle.

We waited a few more minutes, and by 5:40 p.m., we decided to head home, thinking John Zegrus probably wouldn’t show up, or maybe he had come at the time he said and left when we weren’t there.

As we were sitting on the motorcycle, a silver Nissan car approached the cemetery entrance. The driver was alone and parked next to us. He greeted us with a "good afternoon," and we replied the same way. We left slowly, and when I looked in the motorcycle mirror, I saw the man get out of the car with a vase of flowers and head into the cemetery.

We took the road back home. A few days passed, and I felt very frustrated for not having met John Zegrus, but I was also determined to find him. So, I decided to create a website to try to contact him. The website is at this address: www.zegrus.com

On October 16th, I received a mysterious email from a sender called "Group 7." The message said they knew I was looking for John Zegrus and had created a website to find him. The message stated that if I didn’t find John Zegrus within 10 months, Carla and I should go to the "sacred place" to try to meet him there. The message also said that I needed to be wise enough to decipher a riddle that was attached to the email and that I should post this riddle on the website so that John Zegrus could be informed. And so, I did.

Today, as I write this account, it is October 20th, 2024. I’m still waiting for another contact from John Zegrus. The only image I have of him is from that January recording, but it isn’t clear. However, I remember his face perfectly. If you can help by sending photos of possible John Zegrus, I would be very grateful. You can post the photos on X:

This concludes my story. Thank you for your patience if you made it this far.

Interesting.  Did Carla hear the voice from the tv like you did?

I am John Zegrus. Ell is my nick.

I have never been to Brazil, though.

I tried to upload my photo to X, but every time I tried to log in the screen turned green.

Anyway, I do not think that I am your John Zegrus.

Did you think to go into the cemetary and look for a grave with John Zegrus on the headstone?

Interesting story. Maybe John Zegrus is Brazilian version of the Rugman. He comes and disappears in the split of the second.

John Zegrus appears to be either an urban legend or a conman. I haven't researched this extensively, but a quick Google search reveals some intriguing results.

I loathe Facebook but I'm just pointing out that there is a lot of BS on the internet and you can't believe everything you read.

@openozyfor some reason, I can't quote your last post.

What I meant in my post is that the OP has likely come across the story of John Zegrus and then decided to write this post. I want to clarify that I do not believe the story. I realise I did not clarify that, and I apologise for any confusion.
