Health Insurance CEO Shot Dead on NYC Street in Possible Targeted Attack

The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was shot dead in New York City on Wednesday morning outside the company's investor day in a stunning broad daylight attack in one of the busiest areas of Manhattan.

Brian Thompson, 50, was fatally shot Wednesday morning around 6:45 a.m. on the street near the Hilton hotel in Midtown. The New York Post reported that a masked man fired at Thompson and then fled the scene. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Thompson was walking toward the Hilton dressed in a suit and tie when he was fired upon by a gunman 20 feet away, CNN reported. The alleged gunman fled on foot to a back alley and then hopped on a bicycle.

Police sources speaking to the Post said they had reason to believe the shooting was targeted.

They think he was targeted because the shooter may have known something about him that's in the article. Still didn't deserve to be shot like that.

In April, Bloomberg reported that Thompson was among a handful of senior executives at the company that sold over $100 million in stock before a federal antitrust investigation into UnitedHealth was made public. The stock sales happened between October 2023 and February of this year.

UnitedHealth reportedly received notice in October that the Department of Justice was investigating whether the company's acquisitions violated federal antitrust laws. The probe was first reported by Bloomberg in February, causing UnitedHealth shares to drop on the news.

I just thought of this now, if they do have the right person, this suspect may have changed his clothes and backpack before the assassination.  Possible, I guess. But I don't know, I'm not a detective and I feel that is a little bit of a speculative reach for me. Anyway, their detectives will figure it all out and hopefully have the right answers, whether it's this person they suspect or another they find in the future.

 I know, right. I watched this guy on YT last night and he made similar points as to why he thought this happened. I just hope this kind of assassinations don't become a copycat thing. Because the way he talked, he said he saw comments people made about this event in other videos justifying this murder. If true, that's not good!

I'm no expert,but from the little that can be seen the jawline and nose do not point towards the suspect being female.

Yeah.  sad that she seems OK with it, but I think she called it.  There are people that feel victimized by healthcare and they are angry.  They could be Left or MAGA,  all it takes is angry victims.  There are always a few on the angry victims spectrum that will take action. Could have even been a hit called by a disgruntled investor.   There is some big money  and shady stock dealings involved in United Health care.

Probably what we are wondering is if it is a single event or the start of a trend. But its pretty hard to maintain law and order when  personal revenge is allowable beyond the justice system.

Look closely, he has a 5'oclock shadow.   If it is a woman, she is a well financed and supported hitwoman with an organization that can hide her and help her escape.  That would make her a businessperson, not a person with a personal cause.

Well, yes. And looking at the pics again, I was thinking the suspects' nose was awfully large for a woman.
