Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said Wednesday he is “optimistic” about President-elect Donald Trump’s second term and expressed some excitement about potential regulatory cutbacks in the coming years.

“I’m actually very optimistic this time around,” Bezos said on stage during a wide-ranging interview at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit in New York. “He seems to have a lot of energy around reducing regulation. If I can help do that, I’m going to help him.”

“We do have too many regulations in this country,” Bezos added.

With all the recalls going on from food products human and animal, electronics, auto industry,ect...not sure we need to just "wholesale" cut regulations across the board.

Well dur, of course anything that makes him even richer at the expense of everyone and everything else is tops in his book.

My observation about Amazon is that I have bought a lot of products made by people and companies around the world that I would not have purchased because of the convenience provided and how easy it is at a whim to order something and have it brought to me in a few days.  Yes Bezos and Amazon make money from transactions between me and the guy that made the pendant I'm wearing but so did the guy that made the pendant, the guy that delivered it, the people that produced the raw materials, etc. The person that made that pendant can now sell 100 times more pendants from his little workshop through Amazon than he could without Amazon so Amazon is a boon for him.  What may have been a hobby is now a living.  All enabled by Bezos bringing a new way to buy and sell products.  His gain is not our loss his gain has provided many people with gains providing a better way to sell more and for us to buy what we want more easily.

If you can back up your statement above with facts let's hear about all the lives Bezos is destroying in order to get richer.

Are we eating better with all of our current regulations from the FDA?  No.  Just look at how much more unhealthy our food is than Europe's despite current regulations.

Maybe, get our "regulations in order" instead of cutting them?

I personally don't eat a lot of processed foods and probably eat cleaner than most Europeans, but that's a personal choice I suppose.

You think so until you go to France and eat a potato and realize there is something off with the one's at home.

No doubt, but that can also come down to farming techniques used and the quality or lack there of of the soil.

I don't grow potatoes, but have grown my own peppers, tomatoes, squash, ect. to know the difference.

Not really, but they did detect the bird flu virus in a corporations' raw milk recently. And RFK and his corporate buddy want to cut regulations on drinking and making raw milk. So the FDA does have its usefulness. But on the other hand, I wouldn't mind seeing the dyes removed from our foodstuff. And the FDA has not done anything about that. This is clearly not a black and white issue with regulations or the FDA. It's been totally screwed up for a long time.

In addition, I think with the rampant crime of items being stolen from porches and the nasty bit of many many items, sold by Emperor Bezos, there might be another shift towards brick and mortar stores. So customers can see the actual items prior to sale and not worry about them being stolen after being delivered.

That would be wonderful!

I hate online shopping, it's up there in "convenience scam" with the whole "debit cards are more convenient" garbage.

All debit cards make more convenient is paying bills, outside of that it has made full grown adults scared to carry a $20 - $50 Bill on them at anytime.

Absolutely can't stand waiting in line at a gas station and 12 adults in line having to fish out their cards, make multiple swipes, then take more time putting their card away for a coke and a candy bar!... there's my little rant of the day 😆

Rich people happy about the prospect of getting richer by cutting regulations needs "backing up"? Cool story bro.

Let's see what gets cut before we spin it into some good time fairy tale. My money is on workers getting screwed somehow, that seems to be a standard these days.

Okay old man.  I am not carrying around $300 when I take people out to dinner or keeping a change jar on my dresser that eventually I have to go cash in at a loss somewhere as it overflows onto the floor.  Shopping online is great too I have bought so many products online that I could never have gotten easily wasting gas and time going from strip mall to strip mall in search of things.

Ordering merchandise and having it delivered to the house a day or two is like a miracle in my opinion. For Christmas i want a portrait of Bezos to hang on the wall.

"Old man" 😆

It is rather funny, the old farts like yourself are some of the worst offenders hahaha

True story had an old guy 55-60 a few weeks back holding up the line at the grocery store, out of nowhere he blurts out "they need to make those registers like they did in the old days"...next thing you know,he's pulling out that card taking an extra 5 minutes of everyone's time.

I'd prefer to actually see the quality of an item, and when buying shoes or clothes be able to properly see if they are a good fit, can't do that online...

"Well just send it back"...yep,more wasted time.
