Even Brexiteer voters want Britain to have free movement with the EU, new poll says

Keir Starmer is being pushed to be more ambitious wiith his Brexit relations reset with the EU after new polling suggested voters - even Brexiteers - now support reversing large parts of the UK’s departure from the bloc.

The survey of 9,278 voters was commissioned by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). The YouGov and DataPraxis survey of six European countries (France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and Spain) is the most comprehensive poll of public attitudes towards UK-EU relations since 2016.

In the UK it found that British citizens are reluctant to follow America’s lead during a second Trump presidency, and a majority - including many Brexit-voting citizens - now favour a “closer” relationship with the European Union for the coming period.

The polling suggested that Brexit-era divisions within Britain have abated, with both Leavers and Remainers now prepared to countenance free movement in exchange for a stronger economic relationship with the EU.

meanwhile the two most pro Brexit parties are a head in the polls, and likely to form the next govt when the time arrives. any time between now and the next four years.

Anything negotiated by Labour will be overturned and dismissed, with this knowledge the EU wont waste time and the end result the country will further distance itself from the EU political project.

everything Labour currently touches turns to ****, this will too.

So need not worry.

In the meantime UK gov signs off a meeting between Trump and Prince William.

Looks at what's happening not what's said.

We've got our accession to the pacific trade partnership in three days time 15th December. - The UK will gain access to a free trade area spanning five continents and almost 600 million people. More than 99% of current UK goods exports to CPTPP members will be tariff-free. We've already gone from 14th in the world while in the EU to 4th in the world in exports after leaving the EU. this deal will only help cement that position.

Our economy will be boosted by 0.4%% over the next 15 years (OBR). We already have trade deals (due to EU membership) with 90% of the CPTTP.  Meanwhile, our SMEs will be smothered by Brexit red tape.

Quote LAT? Who in Europe (the UK is in Europe) will benefit from Trump? Farage and Reform laugh at idiots. I can't remember if it was you or Cookie Monster who asked 'if the EU is so great, why isn't the US a member?' A difficult question to answer, I must admit.

Told by remainers Britain wouldn't be able to do any trade deals, no-one will want to trade with the UK post Brexit.

The UK today has more trade deals and with more countries than it had while EU members, and lets not forget these are now bespoke trade deals, and the Brexit bonus of having regained our own individual seat at the WTO.

small technicality, The trade deal the EU has with five of the 11 members of CPTPP, came into force after the UK had left the EU. So, we had no benefit while EU members.

The UK joining CPTPP makes it near impossible to re-join the EU customs Union. let alone the conditions on rejoining the EU itself. - in other words its never going to happen.

But 8 years after the Brexit vote i guess you can still dream @pellinore

None of this is actually true. Most of the trade deals are roll-overs, and the few new ones (Oz, NZ, Japan) are disadvantageous to the UK.

Joining the CPTPP has conferred no economic advantage, but we can relinquish membership whenever we want- which hopefully will be before the current govt leave office.

You've gone from no one will want a trade deal with the UK if we leave, to us securing trade deals, much is made of the rollover deals like that's a bad thing. We where fully paid up members of the EU, clearly those countries who rolled over deals wanted to continue trading with the UK irrespective of our membership. you yourself must've been gutted.

Since then the trade deals have continued to increase, we keep doing the things you said where impossible.

As a nation of importers, its nice to see post Brexit  we've also climbed the export charts, going from the worlds 14th largest exporter to the worlds 4th after leaving. an impossibility you'd have told us. But all these new trade deals are bad. clearly. and with each passing trade deal we move further and further away from the customs union and EU.

I say long may the bad trade deals continue.

I look forward to the continued meltdown tomorrow when we Join CPTPP.
