Gay men can train as priests but must be celibate, say Italian bishops

Gay men will be allowed to train as priests in Roman Catholic seminaries, so long as they observe celibacy, according to new guidelines announced by the Italian Bishops Conference (CIE).

The decision marks a shift from the view previously held by Pope Francis that gay men should not be admitted to seminaries owing to the risk of them leading a double life. According to the guidelines, the most important thing for aspiring priests is to show “an orientation towards celibate life”.

Why should they be obligated to celibacy when it's little more than a suggestion for other priests.

Well obviously because Levitcus 20:13 says that theirs is a crime that warrants the death penalty in God's eyes.

Leviticus says many things are mortal crimes. Most of them are ignored when inconvenient.

Are you suggesting that the celibacy required of catholic priests is related to that verse? I'm guessing not, but I'm not sure what your point is.

The Catholic Church can ill-afford to turn away any recruit to its priesthood.

Next they will be asking the Satanists to join..

Oh, hang on.

But seriously, there are many priests today who don't even believe in GOD!!

And this pope has stated that there are many ways to GOD, not only though the Catholic Church, which begs the question, why???

Why, if you don't believe in the Supremacy of Christ, as GOD on earth, why are you even the pope?

And who is going to 'police' these supposed celibate lives? Business as usual then. :hmm:

Well there's no point asking the police to investigate, the church will only cover them up, and the MSM are silent.

And the politicians are bribed or blackmailed, and up to their necks in it, anyhow.

Our kids are being systematically raped, by the people within the system.

Actually, I think Catholic priests who cannot stay celibate should be jailed, or executed too.  It might stop them molesting children.  If you can't stay celibate, don't take orders, but if you make an oath, keep it or else...

The police and the public, like any other crime.  I certainly wouldn't allow priests to police other priests.  We know what happens.

Maybe a preventive removal of bell and clapper could solve all these problems.

HI Eight Bits

I know back in time not so long ago and for several hundreds of years families would raise one boy for the military, one or two to work the farm and the delicate one would be god's child for the priesthood.

That's a bit harsh. Maybe lifting the ban would be as effective.

Besides we wouldn't want a church that could enact it's own laws.

Equality...

Being gay isn't a sin. It's the sexual activies that are sinful.

Leviiticus isn't required to be followed by most Christian denominations.

Who turns away ham, pork, or bacon, other than Muslims and Jews??

1. Being a murderer isn't a sin. It's the act of killing people that is sinful?

2. Vegans.

Being a murderer isn't a sin. The murder was the sin.

So being gay is just only about homosexual intercourse? Got it...

The "priests are unmarried" policy has attracted a lot of homosexuel men to the priesthood. Which has resulted in numerous problems for the Church. The "priests are unmarried" policy, should be changed.
