+and-then Posted January 25 #2 Share Posted January 25 Sounds like a supercavitating system. Russia had the first one on a torpedo called the Shkval. It had spotty accuracy and limited range but could travel at around 200 knots. 2
Mr.UFO Posted January 25 #3 Share Posted January 25 I don't mean to sound like the annoying nerdy kid that reminds the teacher that he/she forgot to assign the class homework. But this craft should be called a USO -- Unidentified Submerged Object. No matter what you call it, anything able to cut through the water and go that fast is quite impressive.

It’s extremely impressive, a level of underwater performance far beyond any human capability. 3

But we do not share the same DNA, for sure. 2

But we do not share the same DNA, for sure. @and-then called it. A supercavitating system is a system that uses a vapor cavity to reduce drag and allow objects to move at high speeds underwater. This system is used in torpedoes, propellers, and other underwater vehicles. How it works When an object moves through water at high speeds, the pressure drops behind it If the pressure drops below the water's vapor pressure, bubbles form The bubbles create a cavity that surrounds the object, reducing drag The only part of the object in contact with the water is the cavitator, which is located at the front of the object Applications Torpedoes: Supercavitating torpedoes are capable of remarkable submerged speeds Propellers: Supercavitating propellers can reduce skin friction drag Underwater vessels: In theory, the technique could be extended to an entire underwater vessel Challenges
