North Korean Troops in Russia Taken off Front Lines - The New York Times

North Korean soldiers who joined their Russian allies in battle against Ukrainian forces have been pulled off the front lines after suffering heavy casualties, according to Ukrainian and U.S. officials.

The North Korean troops, sent to bolster Russian forces trying to push back a Ukrainian offensive inside Russia’s borders, have not been seen at the front for about two weeks, the officials said after requesting anonymity to discuss sensitive military and intelligence matters.

The arrival of around 11,000 North Korean troops in Russia in November caused alarm in Ukraine and among its allies in the West, who feared their deployment signaled a significant escalation in the nearly three-year-old war. But in just three months, the North Korean ranks have diminished by half, according to Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, Ukraine’s top military commander.

I’m sure they got extra special attention by Ukraine and its allies, hastening this redeployment away from the front.

Hi UT

They were deployed as targets in Kursk by Russian command that knew they were sending them to die. The Ukraine made no special attention to them as is is a war zone that Russia has been sending waves of men at for years now so not likely they saw them as any different. Russia wants Kursk back before any cease fire as they do not want to cede that land nor do they want to negotiate to get it back and will use whoever they can to achieve that goal.

Give Ukraine ballistic missiles to destroy russky infrastructure, for f sake. Orc troops (russky, korean) wont have gas to reach battle fronts.

Behind the scenes, I don't think the relationship between Kim Jong Un and Putin is as good as it looks like in public. I'm sure Kim Jong Un is not happy about his troops being used just as cannon fodder.

I'll bet many North Korean soldiers weren't killed at all, but fled as soon as they could. But because they were listed among the dead, their families in NK will be safe.
