Still Waters Posted February 2 #1 Share Posted February 2 A Chinese robotics company has introduced a robotic dog capable of running 100 meters in under 10 seconds. The Black Panther 2.0, developed by Mirror Me, features a robotic dog equipped with spring joints, allowing it to mimic the movement of real animals. The 38-kg, 0.63-meter-tall Black Panther 2.0 can achieve a remarkable peak stride frequency of 5 times per second, making it one of the world's fastest quadruped robots. The researchers behind this project took cues from the joints and paws of animals like black panthers and jerboas to improve the robot's high-speed movement in terms of strength, flexibility, power, precision and fluidity. https://www.livescience.com/technology/robotics/watch-chinas-4-legged-black-panther-2-0-robot-run-as-fast-as-usain-bolt 3
+joc Posted February 2 #2 Share Posted February 2 That is scary! Why is it scary joc? It is scary because, that technology is in the hands of the Chinese government. I see it as a prelude to superhuman robots. Faster, smarter, more durable, and weaponized. And producible...in a country that now produces practically anything and everything. Scary because I saw Terminator not as a sci-fi movie (okay back and forth to the future is sci-fi) but as a preview of life on Earth to come. Where Robots served us in every imaginable way...and also kept us in control...tight control. That was a scary video. Because it shows that robotics has achieved a more intellectual mind set. Imagine: Robots that can run faster than a Cheetah...with the ability to stand on all fours and transform into a military warehouse of weaponized death. I intend no offense but just out of curiosity and understanding, are you inferring that if we (the U.S) had that technology that it would only be used for benevolent and non-militaristic functions? I don't find it scary, what I find disconcerting is that every piece of robotics that has been developed has always been devised for military purposes and anything else is secondary or further down the line. To me it matters not who developed this technology rather what it is primarily going to be used for.

Just fast forward 40 years into the future.
Ajay0 Posted February 3 #5 Share Posted February 3 The Indian military has also developed and deployed robotic dogs for various military purposes. https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/India/meet-mule-indian-army-s-robotic-dog-that-steels-show-at-republic-day-parade/ar-AA1xSXSI?apiversion=v2&noservercache=1&domshim=1&renderwebcomponents=1&wcseo=1&batchservertelemetry=1&noservertelemetry=1 Quote 'MULE' (Multi Utility Legged Equipment), the robotic dogs of the Indian Army, won hearts on Sunday (Jan 26) during the 76th Republic Day parade in Kolkata. The robot, named 'Sanjay', is an all-weather ground robot dog with an excellent capacity for climbing stairs, steep hills, and crossing hurdles. The Army said that 'Sanjay' is designed to perform some specific operations such as perimeter security, protecting assets, and even for chemical-biological-nuclear warfare scenarios. Some other areas where the robot can be used are explosives detection and disposal, intelligence, and surveillance. However I don't think the Indian robots have the same degree of technical sophistication as the Chinese robots mentioned in the article.
