Still Waters Posted February 2 #1 Share Posted February 2 Punxsutawney Phil - a "weather-predicting" groundhog - has forecast six more weeks of winter in the US, disappointing the crowds of people gathered in the Pennsylvania town for the annual Groundhog Day celebrations. To chants of "Phil" the rodent was brought out from a tree stump early on Sunday morning to "give" his yearly forecast. According to folklore, If Phil looks at his own shadow then there will be another six weeks of the North American winter, and if not, then an early spring is on the horizon "There's a shadow up here, get ready for six more weeks of winter this year," a man from the club behind the event proclaimed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg0j8zjlr9o
+Desertrat56 Posted February 2 #2 Share Posted February 2 Has it ever been correct with it's predictions? It only applies to the area the groundhog lives in. In the southwest where we don't have groundhogs we get the end of winter about the same time most years, and it is usually just after the groundhog claims 6 more weeks of winter.

Quote Phil was right 30% of the time between 2014 and 2023, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said, according to BBC's US partner CBS. 2

Megaro Posted February 3 #6 Share Posted February 3 Enough winter, regardless of what that marmot has to say about it. I can see now why Bill Murray simply had to kidnap him in the movie Groundhog Day.

+Desertrat56 Posted February 3 #9 Share Posted February 3 So we had a day where the temperature was over 80 degrees, more like normal again after all the below 60 degree days. The low last night was 28, that is also closer to normal for this time of year. Like I said before, the ground hog "prediction" has never been right for the southwestern part of the country. No he’s never been right. If i was Trump I’d check his birth certificate and deport him because i get a feeling he’s from Canada and votes for Trudeau
