Musk: Trump ‘agreed’ USAID should be shut down

Tech billionaire Elon Musk said early Monday that President Trump has “agreed” to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which administers billions of dollars of humanitarian, development and security assistance in more than 100 countries.

“None of this could be done without the full support of the President, you know. And with regard to the USAID stuff, I went over it with him in detail, and he agreed that we should shut it down,” Musk said in an X Spaces discussion.

“And I actually checked with him a few times. I said, ‘Are you sure?’ He’s like, ‘Yes,’” Musk added. “So we’re shutting it down.”

Musk said in the discussion — which included former DOGE co-leader Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) — that there was no hope for USAID to improve and instead they would be forced to shutter the agency.

I believe that this will lose in appeal as Congress approved all the money for that agency.

I would love to see the press perform some due diligence on this story and find out exactly what corruption is occurring in USAID.  I have no doubt that there are some inappropriately used funds.

All the shocking ways USAID spent your money

HIV research about transgenders

Millions to COVID lab in China

Serbian LGBTQ group

Electric vehicles in Vietnam

Trans care clinics

LGBTQ initiatives globally

Operas in Columbia

Peruvian trans comic books

Efforts to 'expand atheism' abroad

Apparently the US pays about 50% of all aid globally.

"In Nepal" not "abroad" is what the article says.

And that doesn't make sense because it's a Hindu and Buddhist country that has a "Freedom from Religion" law banning missionaries.

I think I got the message, lol.

Maybe a stupid question from a Dutch guy, but what is the USAID supposed to spend the money on?

You’d think.  Maybe ask East Palestine, OH and North Carolina generally.  At least up until about two weeks (!) ago.

That's my thought.  I would be shocked if less than half of the money didn't end up in the pockets of despots, warlords, and the uber wealthy.

Well, as long as these despots and warlords like to dress like women, it must be ok. Right?

Really?

Trump freeze on federal aid may ensnare billions in funding to North Carolina

I don't understand the emphasis on "agreed".  Is it to insinuate that Trump is just a rubber stamp for Musk?  If so, it's kind of silly.  Musk took on a role offered by the President and is performing that role.  He is finding waste and reporting to the President for his determination of next steps.  In this case, he agreed with Musk's appraisal and was permitted to act.

One of North Carolina's representatives is quoted in the piece:

Republican Rep. Tim Moore of Kings Mountain said in a statement that “the White House has assured” him that FEMA relief will continue uninterrupted, despite those programs’ inclusion in the list distributed by the OMB on Monday.

I'd love to see them do some due diligence on anything.  They're just propagandists now.  This is only the beginning.  If they cannot kill DOGE, we can expect hair-on-fire reactions from this point forward.

I wonder if your country was using your tax dollars to fund the planet and were quadrillions of Kronors in debt how you would feel about having that leak plugged? 🤔

I am hearing that the whole thing cannot be gotten rid of, only paused by executive orders, because congress has the power of the purse. Also, Isreal and Egypt are still receiving USAid.

Fact or not fact?

The USAID website reports that between February 27, 2012, and August 31, 2016, it gave $4,819,125 in taxpayer money to Soros’s Open Society Foundation
