What to know about El Salvador’s mega-prison after Trump deal to send people there

I don't think we are going to be using El Salvadorian Prisons built for hardcore criminals to be housing people who were not themselves hardcore criminals.  You should watch a video about those prisons if you haven't.  It's not like any prison you have ever seen.  There are like 20+ inmates in one cell.  No mattresses, nor nothing.  A toilet.  That's about it.  But every cell has an armed guard standing in front of the cell.  Always.  There is never a time when someone is not armed with an assault rifle standing in front of your cell.  If you get out of line...i.e..hurt another inmate.  They throw your ass in the hole...a black hole.  So, the idea that the gangs are going to murder other inmates is just not reality.  They know why they are there.  They did bad things.  But as a gang member in MS13  you had to do those bad things to survive.  Survival in the prison is easy.  You are doing time.  Hard time.  All day, everyday.  You aren't there to be rehabilitated, you are there to be punished.

Here's some info on the deaths there: https://apnews.com/article/president-nayib-bukele-war-on-gangs-human-rights-el-salvador-d90fbd45833291f09efb2c962dea605d

El Salvador offered to take any prisoner- even American ones and their president even mentioned that the cost to house them would most likely be cheaper than in the US.

Well thanks joc, I've seen a bunch of videos in the last year or two about it.  Maybe review the OP.

The Trump administration and the president of El Salvador said Monday that they’d struck a deal allowing the U.S. to ship both detained migrants and imprisoned citizens to the tiny Central American nation, which has suspended some basic rights as it battles powerful street gangs.

The article does not say anything specific about these people being from El Salvador it says detained migrants, no?  Should we be sending people to a hell hole simply for being here illegally?  Personally I have no problem with sending El Salvadorans not here legally back to El Salvador and let the authorities there sort them out, but it does not sound like that's what's being considered here.  You know I don't tend to freak out every time dumb **** trump opens his trap but we really need to be careful and make sure America does what's right and fair.  No leader should have everything he does thoughtlessly rubberstamped by the public.

I think this is actually something completely different from immigration and deportations.  Trump just wrapped it up with immigration to conceal the issue.

It's basically using foreign prisons/Guantanamo to house immigrant and American prisoners outside the US and presumably outside of Constitutional protections.

I don’t believe they are;

It will also “accept for deportation any illegal alien in the United States who is a criminal from any nationality, be they MS-13 or Tren de Aragua and house them in his jails,” he said – referring to two notorious transnational gangs with members from El Salvador and Venezuela.3 days ago

While the government is accused of committing mass human rights abuses in their crackdown, Bukele remains highly popular in El Salvador because the homicide rates sharply dipped following the detentions. The Central American nation went from being one of the most dangerous countries in the world to having the lowest homicide rate in the region.

I don't think Trump is going to be sending American citizens serving time here to L Salvador.  I don't think the Constitution allows him that power.

The threat of being rounded up and sent to a hellhole prison might motivate these criminal illegals to self deport before capture.
