pellinore Posted February 6 #1 Share Posted February 6 (edited) Efforts to keep potentially disease-ridden meat out of the UK are being undermined by post-Brexit border checks, a senior health official has said. The boss of the Dover Port Health Authority said illegal meat, which has not been through proper health checks, was now available on "most high streets" in the UK. Under the post-Brexit system, checks on commercial vehicles do not take place at Dover itself. Instead, drivers are ordered to travel 22 miles (35km) away to a border control post at Sevington. But critics have warned that many lorries are simply failing to turn up for the checks, due to a lack of enforcement. +and-then Posted February 6 #3 Share Posted February 6 I wonder if it includes bushmeat. If so, many citizens won't bat an eye before buying it.

stevewinn Posted February 7 #5 Share Posted February 7 hang on, So we are aware of this situation because post Brexit we NOW check every lorry. instead of checking just 5% like we did pre-Brexit. So to avoid queues at Dover, we ask the same lorries to drive to another site for checking but some lorry drivers dont turn up and proceed to their destination. So when we was in the EU and there was basically NO checks at all the same scenario of poor quality meat was just waved through. I think we can chalk that up as a Brexit win. catching the EU sending us poor quality meat. question now is, how long have they been doing that and getting away with it? and simple, those lorries who who fail to turn up for checks. - note their registration and when they try and leave back to Europe stop them - Fine the driver and the company. massively.
