Tesla’s sales plummet across Europe

Sales of Tesla’s electric vehicles have fallen sharply across many of its key European markets amid a consumer backlash against Elon Musk’s interventions in the region’s politics.

The world’s largest EV maker in January registered only 1,277 new cars in Germany, according to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, a drop of 59.5 per cent compared with the same month last year. The country hosts Tesla’s only manufacturing plant in Europe.

Sales of electric vehicles slowed sharply in Germany and France last year following a pullback in government subsidies, but demand has started to recover recently.

Tesla’s drop came as the German EV market in January grew more than 50 per cent year on year, pushing its market share down from 14 to 4 per cent.

In France, Tesla sales were down 63 per cent in January, while registrations of Tesla cars in Norway fell 38 per cent. In the UK, registrations declined 8 per cent from a year earlier.

Automotive analyst Matthias Schmidt said one factor behind Tesla’s sales decline in Germany could be that consumers were waiting for the upgraded Y model, scheduled for the first half of 2025. However, other experts have also blamed a backlash against Musk’s political involvement.

The trend would seem to be electric cars across the board.... which indeed is good news.

The time is finally ripe for the Dutch to move into the market....

If supporting a German ultra right wing party, of which is known several members were neo-nazis, is his way of having fun, then I hope he chokes in his dollars.

It is, but that doesn't make it any better.

So under German Law that political party has the right to exists, and your problem is with Elon Musk.

Shouldn’t your problem be with the German Bundestag, and with the Political party you support who are losing the argument, and with that the German people.

Elon Musk isn’t the problem. your focusing or fighting the wrong opponent. - meanwhile while you c***-a-hoop over Tesla - over there the AfD are winning more supporters.

Let the AfD exist and go out and beat them with debate and Policy. If you cant do that then you get what you deserve as they say.

My point: like Henry Ford supported nazism, and Hitler with his merry men, Musk is now supporting the AfD. As far as I know no money is involved yet, but that might change.

Musk is crazy enough to do it.

So your comparing the AfD to the National Socialist German Workers' Party of the 1920's.

Are you telling me that the current day German people are turning towards Nazism?

They are turning towards a party that wants to get rid of (Muslim) immigrants who cause a lot of problems, and not only in Germany.

But give the AfD enough power, and they'll go a lot further.

The obvious flaw in the narrative that people are turning on Musk for his support of AFD is that the slump in EV sales was at the end of 2023 and start of 2024.

Long before Musk even entered politics, and most likely because Germany and other Central European countries were being crippled due to high gas prices. Lets not forget, the very wise Germans turned off all their nuclear power plants, so the only way to produce large amounts of electricity is burning gas. If people still don`t get it, when gas has skyrocketed you put petrol in your car, and you can only do that if you have a petrol car.

The biggest delusional projection in modern history is that Hitler was far-right.

In reality he was so socialist he was bordering on being a commie. There really isn`t much difference between his socialist policies and Stalin`s manifesto, except that they didn`t like each other. The Nazi party were a Labour Party that had added imperialism, racism, and xenophobia to their list of policies. Hence their name. While we are discussing this I`m also going to point out the modern day problem with antisemitism inside left-wing, not right-wing, parties.

Not only is the projection and application of the term far-right incorrect, those doing it don`t even know what far-right means. The furthest right you can possibly get (and its only existed once in history) is the true democracy of ancient Athens. When the city state was small they all used to cram into a stadium, and all citizens vote on policy. The leader was elected only for the session, and could only be leader once. Rule of the people, by the people, for the people.

What on earth does being against immigration or the EU have to do with far-right? Its lefty manipulation and bad mouthing to close down free debate and democracy.

Maybe we should use the term "fascist"? Or "dictatorial"?

Poor Elon, just a few months ago he was the poster boy, anyone who was anyone wanted to be pictured with this tech guru, genius rocket man, saving the planet with his electric Tesla brand. - for years the leftards were falling over themselves. Then overnight the most tolerant lovey dovey leftards displayed that affection and tolerance by turning on him, and now theres a open campaign against him. - arent they a lovely bunch.

Tesla has gone to ****, yea, lets hope his sales fall, yea, lets buy Chinese instead. and 140,000 Germans in Berlin find themselves out of a job. yea.

welcome to the twisted logic of the Left.

Let's hope this rich genius nerd finally understands that he should stick to what he's best at: technology.

And ... technology =/= politics.

Far left is rule by one (with lots of laws to enforce it), far right is rule by all (with the bare minimum laws).

Socialists go on the left because they close down free speech, and introduce lots of laws. Sometimes they go further and recruit foot soldiers and secret police.

You would have loved living in Nazi Germany.

Free speech, no problems being of a different 'race' or religion.

Being crippled or having a mental disability, no problems at all.

Free to express your opinions about politics.

...yeah...

And then the concentration camps showed up...
