This month marks the 30th anniversary of one of the world's largest searches for evidence that we are not alone in the universe.

Cant talk about SETI without mentioning the WOW signal from -77

Is this the latest theory?

SETI may have been incorporated in 1984, but it started in 1960 and the first meeting with SETI’s founders was coordinated by Frank Drake at Green Bank, West Virginia. Project Ozma was their first official search for extraterrestrial signals.

Didn't they also use the Holmdel Horn?

It was built exactly the same time as Green Bank 1959-1960 but I don’t think SETI used it, at least not then. The two astronomers in 1964 who discovered the Big Bang weren’t affiliated with them.

But it was part of the first boom of observatories built specifically for the use of radio astronomy.

Green Bank was what I was actually thinking about.

"It was a neutron star, passing behind a cloud of hydrogen."

C'mon, UM!

Cant help to think about the excellent movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster and also its excellent conclusions...that we are still not there...and if "they" want to contact us they will

It was really good.

Arrival, from 2016, with Amy Adams, is another one of my favorite "contact" movies.

I would also recommend the TV series 3 Body Problem.

Arrival is underappreciated.

So, the aliens mixed up project Phoenix with the city of Phoenix, that is why they appeared at Phoenix in 1997. No, that is probably not what happened but anyway 😉 .

If SETI wants to discover Alien life, perhaps they could expend some resources on UFO's and drones in our own atmosphere.

Alternately, what ever would we do with the discovery of Alien life on a planet that would take us a million years to reach?

As far as I am concerned, SETI has been a waste of time, money, and talent.

The military can do that. They sure have the budget and incentive for it... as in National security and flight safety.

I dont agree. Even if we havent found anything yet, looking for answers to this ultimate question is who we are as a species. We search for answers and investigate the world (universe) around us.

...and who knows, can you imagine if we one day got a Wow Signal that repeated it self... like in the movies!

Instead of just believing, then we would Know.

Like Carl Sagan said - To finally know that we are not alone would be a comfort, and a little scary. (Im Paraphrasing)

Epic Awesomeness.

I would hope the program and others like it continue and can evolve into other areas. Any serious research into the topic should be supported.

I personally don't think there has been alien visitation to earth, I am open to the idea that intelligent life may exist somewhere in the vastness of the universe.
