Still Waters Posted February 14 #1 Share Posted February 14 In a rare encounter, a young man from an isolated Indigenous tribe approached a riverine community in Brazil's Amazon, the country's Indigenous affairs agency and local witnesses said Thursday. The encounter occurred around 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bela Rosa, a community along the Purus River in the southwestern Amazon. Barefoot and wearing a small loincloth, the young man appeared calm and in good health as he waved two wooden sticks, a villager told The Associated Press. The villager spoke on condition of anonymity, saying the Indigenous bureau Funai told locals not to discuss the incident. https://phys.org/news/2025-02-uncontacted-indigenous-tribe-emerges-amazon.html Quote The National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) reports that last Wednesday (12), at around 7 pm, voluntary contact was made by an isolated indigenous person from the Mamoriá Grande region, located between the municipalities of Pauini and Lábrea, in Amazonas. The episode occurred in a riverside community located on the Purus River, approximately five kilometers from the Mamoriá Grande Ethnoenvironmental Protection Base. https://www.gov.br/funai/pt-br/assuntos/noticias/2025/funai-monitora-tentativa-de-contato-de-indigena-isolado-de-mamoria-grande
Cho Jinn Posted February 19 #2 Share Posted February 19 Very cool. Do you give him the lighter? Hopefully he doesn't contract anything, and saunters over to the Juma for some, uh, samba lessons.
